Android Version of Plex connecting to server but not playing media files?

This build should solve the problem as well: Plex Media Server - #440 by drzoidberg33

In the settings you can change blurred to the dim setting.

Doesn’t fix my FireTV, but a Server Reboot does.

Well, Six… that does nothing of any value on my FireTV and boy do I wish it did.
The Home Screen, the DVR, My Library Tabs, ALL my Collections - everything is ate up with a Blurred Vomit Smear - and I can’t do a thing about it. The Vomit Smear changes every time I hit a new item and I can’t begin to describe the displeasure that creates.

I’ll spare you the vertical cell cam image, but I’ve had ā€˜Dimmed’ selected far as long as Dim has been alive - and it does nothing to stop The Blur.

When I go to an item that has a background, it is Dimmed, true enough.
I can’t add backgrounds to my Library Tab, or the Home Screen, or the DVR - all that is Force-Blurred. <—and changes for every single item - after it chugs and spits to create it and load it.

Im aware of that. But I dont see how I can update the plex server just for the fire tv stick?
I am using the WD My cloud home and wondering if it their end? There is no server update option for that type of ā€˜nas’? Would Disabling/re-enabling prompt it do you think? Of course after backing up metadata etc

Any advice on how to fix this if I have a WD My Cloud Home? You cant seem to arbitrarily update the plex server with this type of NAS. You can only enable/disable it within the wd software. Should I try disabling and then enabling to re-configure?

This has nothing to do with the android plex app?

Are you able to restart the server or the WD device? It sounds like a reboot is solving the problems temporarily.

I’ve informed the server team and hope to hear something soon.

Restarting the device works for temporary loss of connection for ios apps, but restarting doesnt seem to fix anything re: android apps such as firestick. Im not aware of any way to restart the plex server within wd my cloud home. Its weird. PC works fine and the plex media server on that is fine too. So I use my pc, apple tv and firestick to access my ā€˜wd my cloud home’ but only the damn android apps wont play. I cant update plex server on the wd persĆ©.

I just dont see how this type of nas allows to ā€˜restart the server’

Other NAS devices such as synology allow you to manually update the plex server on the NAS software.

Am I making any sense? I apologize for any lack of clarification

Sorry to keep bothering but I’m 100% convinced this is not on any server issue or NAS drive issue, this is a Plex app issue on the android platform. The plex media server update does not change the plex android app inability to play a video. Can you please find out from Plex what ia going on?

After replicating the issue on your Android device, can you send me the logs; Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Portal Logs | Plex Support

Plex Logs

Let me know if that didn’t work

You need to copy the contents of that screen and paste it into a text file.

Hi all

Was in contact with WD today and they informed me developer’s are working on an update and it should be soon to resolve the issue with android

Plex Log.txt (309.4 KB)

That work?

really? I was in touch with them yesterday and basically blew me off saying 'because it works on ios, it is a plex app issue.

Do you have a WD Cloud Home? I’m beginning to dislike them as a true ā€˜nas’. Not just because of this issue, just lack of flexibility

Yes. I have one. Never had any trouble with it. The guy on the phone was nice and even rang me back to tell me it’s with the developers.

Good for you, well done. Thanks for sharing man

That’s no problem That’s what it’s all about. Helping each other

I did something you might want to try and it worked for me. I noticed I wasn’t getting remote access to connect in the Plex pc app. Try a couple of things…

  1. I went into my router’s settings and made sure that the UPnP settings was enabled and it was. I toggled it off/on and refreshed for good measure

  2. Inside the Plex pc app. Once you have My Cloud Home connected, check to see remote access. If it is working and connected then you should have no problem with the android app.

  3. IF there is no remote access still, go further below to Network and on the right ā€˜show advanced’ and turn secured connections to ā€˜Disabled’. Close the app and restart and give it a bit of time and see if remote access is then connected.

  4. I noticed that when i did get remote access finally the android app worked, BUT, the browser plex version was not connecting because it needs that Network setting set to ā€˜Preferred’. For whatever reason mine was set to preferred before and still was no remote access connection. I switched it back to ā€˜Preferred’ and now everything is running smoothly for a while and then lost remote connection again. I set it back to Disabled and all good

PC app, browser, andriod, ios…everything!

Beats me how or why or what order I did it, OR if someone else did it all and I just didn’t know.

Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Essentially that works
