<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>I’ve got an issue with Star Blazers 2202. I can’t get the PLEX agent to find the series, and it tries to shove it into the 2199 series instead.
I’ve renamed the folder to the “Japanese” version (Space_Battleship_Yamato_2202_Warriors_of_Love_(2017)_{tmdb-72736} and even tried using the TMDB tag and it still won’t pull the series up.
Copilot says it’s the new agent PLEX is using. I don’t know what it is but I’m pretty frustrated at the moment.
Is there a tutorial on Anime libraries? Are there alternate agents we can use that works better than the PLEX TV one for Anime series?
Should I set up an “Anime” library? Just looking for some guidance on this so I can get the different series (6x currently) all working and playing nice.
Keep in mind that there are two principal metadata standards for series in Plex: TheMovieDB.org and TheTVDB.com
It is crucial to select your preferred as “Episode Ordering” in the properties of the library.
This can be overridden per series, where you can also select one of the alternative orderings from TheTVDB (typically only available atfer the first metadata refresh).
I got this to match in my testing library. I think TMDB may have rearranged things. That TMDB id is never going to work for you. That is the TMDB id for “Frankie Drake Mysteries”
I don’t follow anime but I am guessing they were originally considered two separate shows and have now been combined into one show with two seasons.
I originally started out with a folder named “Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (2013)” but that didn’t match. When I did get it to match, it matched to “Star Blazers 2199 (2013)'”
So I created a folder with that name, created a Season 2 and copied two test files into it.. s02e01.mp4 & s02e02.mp4. Plex matched those episodes fine.
You have two choices, you can use Season 02 or “Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202” as the season name. If you use Season 02, you can go to your library, say it’s Anime, then click on the three dots next to it. Then Manage Library->Edit->Advanced. Scroll down a bit and click on “Use Season Titles”. At that point, you may need to refresh metadata
This is correct. Space Battleship Yamato 2202 is the sequel to 2199. Generally Japanese TV treats sequels as though they are separate shows connected to the previous one, but metadata providers follow the western view they are new seasons of the original show, even when one show is considered “ended” and another is announced years later.
@nx6 above has explained it already. There is nothing to fix. Star Blazers 2202 is listed as season 2 of Star Blazers 2199 on TheTVDB. Which means if you select the Episode Ordering of TheTVDB, you will have to accept that way of organizing it.
I don’t see these there. Unless you think that the Japanese version of these titles is the same as the English one. But that is not the case – at least for matching prposes.
It’s listed as an “alternate title” so it associates as the same show in your media server library. That way if you have the series stored in separate folders they will merge together. You still need to number the episode files to match the TVDB ordering, of course.
FWIW, I decided to start a new library folder for Anime and moved the few series I have into it. I did as you suggested, renamed first file s02e01 and let the system rescan the folder and redo the metadata. It is showing it as Star Blazers 2199 Season 2 and has the correct image for the series displayed (with 2202).
