Anime Episodes not Sorting in Correct Numeric Order

Hello,

I have a couple of anime series that are over 100 episodes and my server seems to not want to sort them out in the correct seasons like I have on my drive. They’re all sorted in the correct seasons, but it’s not able to pull the metadata to label them correctly? Is it something with my system or does Plex just not have all the data on some anime series out there that this time. Some of these have been out for quite a long time. Any assistance, ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

It is possible to have Anime in Plex without resorting to 3rd party scanners or agents. I do it only this way.

Key is to look up your anime on TheTVDB first.
(you might have to research alternative spellings of the title. Also important is whether the anime is indeed a continuation of an existing show. Because TheTVDB puts these into a new season of the original show, whereas other websites create a completely separate show for them.)

  1. Look up your show on TheTVDB
  2. Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB. If there is something in parentheses, take that too. If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like § : % *, simply leave them out.
  3. Check the naming and the folder structure of your show. Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB. No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases. Add the (year) in parentheses when episode 1 of season 1 of this show was aired.
  4. Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide. Use the same title as for the top folder. Show's Title - s01e01 - additional info.ext (’- additional info’ can be left out)
  5. if you have more than 99 episodes within a season, use 3-digit episode numbers on all file names (e.g. s01e012)
  6. After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.

A good tool to perform these renamings is Filebot
