Anime Sorting (Anime Lab version)

I would like to sort my anime differently and was wondering if I can do it within plex or whether I would have to bring in unofficial scanners or metadata agents. I would like to sort my anime the way AnimeLab does it. So for example, if there are 13 episodes in season 1 of an anime, I want the next season’s first episode to be episode 14, not ep 1 but still be a part of season 2. Is this possible?

Plex doesn’t use AnimeLab.
You can only use what’s available on either TheTVDB or TheMovieDB.

Plex can use the “Absolute Ordering” from TheTVDB, but this one then puts all episodes into Season 01.

Yeah I know that plex doesn’t use anime lab, I just wanted to make my point clearer on the way I want the episodes sorted. Yeah, that’s the issue with the absolute order, it only does half of what I’m wanting to do. It has the episodes in absolute order but doesn’t separate them into seasons which I don’t like. Is there any way to separate them into seasons but keep the absolute order?

Anime is funny and there’s just no way to solve it for everyone’s tastes unfortunately.

Personally, I just adjust my own setup to match TMDB ordering when possible but I still have to swap some shows to TVDB Absolute or DVD order and rename\renumber files to match up sources (looking at you Mushishi at TMDB, why is your Specials locked when it’s incomplete!? Oh, because you count them as movies … c’mon).

FileBot works well for bulk renaming to match since it can line up with the sources directly for you (like TVDB or TMDB) and if you wanted to keep alternate numbering in the file itself you could put it as “S02E01 [Absolute 14]” or something to keep references (Plex will ignore what’s in brackets).

I long gave up trying to maintain a default ordering for anime … different groups do it different ways and different sources manage differently as well (is it OVA 3 or S00E4 or S04E26 or is it a movie) … but since it’s a long ways away from swapping VHS tapes I just look at it as another evolution for me.

Edit: Saw this offered up in another thread about anime absolute ordering - it is a plug-in for Plex to be an agent\scanner specifically for Anime absolute ordering: GitHub - ZeroQI/Absolute-Series-Scanner: Seasons, absolute mode, Subfolders...

It’s a bit more than I need but it might be useful for you.

thank you for your help, i will check it out
