Announcement: State of EPG & TV metadata in Plex

Just noticed this announcement:

Plex Media Server 1.21.0.3711 is now available to everyone.

FIXES:

  • (EPG) Reintroduce support for the following countries once the Gracenote provider is enabled - Australia, Hungary, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, Uruguay. (#12135)

Not sure how to use the new Gracenote EPG or if it’s turned on yet.

I found it in settings\Online Media Sources\LiveTV. It is enabled but I can’t download an EPG - gets stuck on the postcode setting - regardless of postcode

I believe it’s due by end of month

Thanks - that makes sense then - that Gracenote is not yet enabled in my country I guess

How many days does Gracenote EPG provide?

A good reference page but remember Plex would have had there perceived requirements in their contact with Gracenote.

14 days would be great. Even 10 days would be a good improvement over the free guide data. When you know something is coming up it’s nice to be able to schedule it well in advance.

Good eye @SE56, we just snuck that note in there a couple of hours ago! Let me give you a sneak peak into some of our future communications and answer the questions that followed your post.

In an effort to get you quality guide data relief as quickly as possible we’ll be launching in two phases. The first phase will enable Gracenote metadata for 32 countries, including; Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Bermuda, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Honduras, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, Uruguay, and USA.

The second phase, which will occur later, will add support for an additional 8 countries; Belgium, Hungary, India, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Russia, and South Africa

It’s difficult to quote across the board how many days of guide data you will receive. My personal experience is that the biggest variable in the quality, and quantity, of guide data is country. While it is our goal to provide a full 14 days of guide data, and in our initial testing we’ve found that more countries are delivering 14 days than ever before, there may be some countries that are in the 8-12 day range.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I’ll try to answer what I can.

Sounds awesome  - do you have a rough start date?

Sorry I jumped the gun, I could not help myself with the fantastic news that Plex folks will be jumping through hoops with such excitement. As for my eye sight, not too bad for a 64 year old.

On behalf of all Plex users, I must thank you so much. It’s been a rough rocky road of compromises, it’s looking good for 2021.

That would be awesome…but give me a couple days. Trust me, no one is more excited about closing this difficult chapter and actually moving on to feature enhancements/improvements than me!

Really looking forward to this! Hope Gracenote’s guide has improved too, last time it missed many programs on NPO 1/2/3 and BBC First was using the Belgian EPG data

Are those of us stuck on an old version due to issues with our Hauppage tuners going to be able to take the new release do you know?

What country are you in?

UK …
