How could I shut this feature down? it’s really annoying
That’s not a count, it’s the number of unread. Go ahead and read them and it will go away.
I read them, but the badge shows still. Could you consider add a “mark as read” button there?
Sorry but that is false. For nearly three or more years, the ANNOUNCEMENTS have reoccur as not read, despite actually clicking on the links. At best or minimum there should be a dismal, mark all read, or a way to hide the ones we don’t want to bother with. It’s such a minuscule but very annoying problem that unfortunately no one at Plex has solved. You guys have no problem moving, repositioning, or removing all sorts of elements in the UI but haven’t seem to quite figure out that ANNOUNCEMENTS need a new coat of paint and some bells and whistles added.
Tell your web browser(s) to not throw away the cookies from plex.tv
after it is closed.
Badge comes back after awhile that I did flash the page only. Thus I don’t think it’s a matter of cookies
Whta does that mean and what does it have to do with cookies?
It means that your mechanics of relying on cookies is rather faulty. I’m rather surprised that ANNOUNCEMENTS is not tied specifically to the user account as it should, synced with the rest of the settings, not specifically to the browser or browser session.
if I didn’t close the page but only refresh it, will my browser “throw away” the cookies?
That depends on the browser’s settings.
There can be also sometimes browser add-ins or other 3rd-party software which can also interfere here.
It is tied to the user account. The thing is just, that the browser is no longer signed into a plex user account if it doesn’t retain the cookie.
If the server admin then also have set the preference “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”, the user might assume that the browser is indeed signed into a user account when it actually is not.
Can you provide a screenshot of the announcement’s page?
Clearing the cookies shouldn’t matter. If you are not signed into your account, you shouldn’t see announcements.
It could be that the status of you reading the announcements is getting blocked and not making it back to your account. So it will temporarily show as read because the info is cached in your browser, but then refreshing the page which updates that info will show them as unread.
During “Plex Pro week” people complained about this too and the notification stayed no matter how many times you opened the link. IIRC FordGuy suggested that these messages were probably meant to stay up until the event was over at the end of the week
This theory seems to hold true. During the recent Plex Pass sale, the notification stayed up until the sale was over no matter how many times I opened and read the notification
There was no Announcement for either of these events. Are we talking about the same thing?
This is happening to me as well. See screenshots below. First is my Plex page, with announcements bug, showing 18 announcements. Next is the list of announcements, with the first 11 read, and the next 18 unread. Note that the first unread is “New app released for Mac & Windows”. I clicked to read the announcement, then closed that browser window and refreshed my Plex page, which still shows 18 announcements. I even tried signing out then back in, closing and reopening my browser, then rereading the announcement. Nothing seems to mark them as “read”.
I’d like to see someone competent from Plex actually chime in here and give a coherent answer as to when this bug will be resolved. I’m plagued by repeatedly showing Announcements no matter how many times I read it, refresh, clear cookies, save cookies, log in, log out, etc.
All this rubbish about cache and clearing browser etc is utter tosh. The problem here is with Plex who can’t seem to work out a way of allowing the announcement flag to dissapear once the user has read the announcement…goodness I have just realised the solution, why don’t Plex just do what everybody else in the world does who provide announcements - add a box where you can just tick Read/Unread. You watch in about 10 years we’ll get an announcement adding just that feature, the ironic thing is the likleyhood will be, won’t be able to get rid of the announcement !
Such a nonsensical reply. Why don’t you just read all the threads first before chiming in…
No it doesn’t.
I have the same annoying bug with the last announcement (Introducing Skip Credits). Doesn’t matter what I do, it’s still showing.
