Another new release of Plex and another renaming of half my movie files

As far as I know, moving local media assets to the top of each setting under movies are supposed to keep the titles that have been renamed by me. But once again, on the upgrade, local media moves to the bottom again. Why does this keep happening? I have a lifetime because I thought Plex was finally a mature platform and I wanted to contribute… But I don’t know how much longer I can put up with this. Sorry for a bit of a rant, but I have followed the instructions at Local Media Assets - Movies | Plex Support. I thought this issue was fixed and was feeling confident about the names of the movie files in my library.

Is there something I’m missing? I have been using Plex for a long long time… can’t even remember when I started. Every so often, and not with every update, this happens to me. Not to every title but enough to make me stressed. Is there a safe way to upgrade to the next version and keep your settings intact?

If anyone has some hints beyond what I can on that webpage I would love to hear them. In the meantime I’m off to check out Emby.

Moving the Local Media Assets source to the top will only work with libraries using a legacy agent (e.g. Plex Movie (legacy), TMDb, TVDb agents). Even for those this will not lock your manual edits – it’ll only result in your server preferring local assets incl. embedded metadata (if available and supported for that file type).

If you want to prevent your server from overwriting your manual edits, make sure to set the lock icon next to the respective field (orange lock = locked). Typing into a field will usually automatically lock it – though I think I remember having experienced this automatism to fail if you simply copy&paste without further typing (in which case you can always manually lock things).
