Some of my movies titles keep changing. Not the actual movie file name in file explorer but in Plex to something like Title 1 (Ch1 - Ch16). I can go and edit and change it back manually, however I have been doing this for moths for dozens of movies. I always use the lock button when editing but it dose not work. when I look in the folders days latter many or more of the movie names have been changed back. I have not found this problem online. Any help would be appreciated…
If you use the older agents, do this:
Go to
- Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
- Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
- Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
- Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
If you already converted your library to the new Plex Movie agent, edit the properties of your movie library, go to the ‘Advanced’ tab and disable “Prefer local metadata”.
Or remove the embedded ‘Title’ meta tag from the affected movie files.
Because these are ultimately responsible for this ugliness.
On Windows, you can use e.g. mp3tag
Thank you for your advice. I was able to find Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - The TVDB and TheMovieDatabase and drag Local Media Assets down to the bottom, however I did not see Plex Movie. I did see a category called Personal Media Shows and I dragged Local Media Assets down to the bottom. I will go over the moves and change back manually the names and keep an eye on it. I will report back if it works or not. Thanks again.
I think it worked. I have not found any of my movie titles changed after trying your suggestion. Thanks again and I hope this will help other people the same problem.
