This looks like its not an issue with openPHT … plex’s own PMP broken as well
I got a dev to admit to it today it looks like they are moving EVERYTHING to secure tokens… the new framework is an INTERNAL REQUIREMENT. You can look at those threads posted above,… that is where I got this guy to weigh in…
But the idiot that buit the IOS app… a SUPPORT app pushed out the latest build but the front end software doesn’t support it yet… DUH…
NO QA at plex…
Now no VERSION CONTROL either… no way this should have been released…
More important is an internal look at what is going to happen here…
If everything is going to have secure x-token header and need them for operation…
More than likely all third parties are going to stop working unless that framework is made open to the community
2 only player that will work might only be the OFFICIAL plex PMP…if and whenever they finish it,
3 that might become a paying only(pass) component… I.E. no more free lunch…
I have returned basic hat switch control by doing a bit of a dance
May or may not have been an issue since my devices are named with straight ascii but suggest you take non basic chars out of the device name
Sign out all devices and servers
Go to your plex.tv account sign in and start the web interface
Delete your devices… yep delete them all… expecially ios … server optional but definitely front ends like PHT and PMP and your IOS. Might as well prune all those stupid web ones too
Go back you your server and sign in
Start up you openPHT device and sign in
Start up plex ios and sign in
Got basic connection back and able to use the nav hatswitch… will not have a now playing screen and only way to stop movie is the back button…
So still dicked but might get you buy until a ‘fix’ is provided by plex …if ever as I see this as a business decision and stratigic ‘breaking’ … ymmv
Go up and catch my back and forth in the ios thread about remote functionality the dev said they had to change the way the token is communicated and they even broke compatibility with their OWN PMP as well … its not just openPHT…
OpenPHT is going to have to change its code too or it will be locked out… they are not going to change the ios app… to them its not a bug… its a new feature that will be incorporated into everything plex
Nice… but pretty pathetic as a paying customer that once again this open source effort continues to work better than apps that these monkeys write at Plex.
So just to confirm. You guys have this new token header change nailed down and iOS 4.4.1 is working controlling the app and showing what is currently playing on the pi?
Also. Can you take a look at the trailer issue as well. It’s an issue with both PHT and PMP. I think the original logic was broken.
With trailers on you can’t select a version of a movies that are stacked in the same library with different size/encode bit rate
Selecting a version on the iOS remote to cast to the player is ignored. Turning off trailers and it works fine.
Kwiboo- I’m VERY happy to hear that 1.7.0 should resolve the iOS remote control issue, as it’s been bugging my wife and me quite a bit! Looking forward to updating my clients once it’s released. Dragon, thanks for being a strong voice in this matter. While I don’t agree with every phrasing and tact you’ve taken, I appreciate all of your effort to ensure the Plex Employee Team feels how backwards this seems to an end-user. It seems crazy that an employee would feel content explaining that the issue isn’t an issue, since PHT is no longer supported and PMP is in beta!!! I mean, come on guys, that’s crazy! I’ve definitely used the iOS app as a stand-alone player plenty, when on the train, for example. But as soon as I’m home, and want to watch something, I’m going to choose my 60" plasma over a phone screen, and casting from the Plex app has been the canonical way to do that, as far as I’ve been led to believe.
I could be wrong but it looks like github has openpht 1.7 posted now. I’m not sure if their release is going to have more changes or be 1.7.1, but if the remote issue is make or break it could be nice to grab right now.
i have had it up to hear with their crap of ignoring issues and breaking more things than they fix… and. I pay for this like most as I see you are pass as well…
What really pissed me off is where this guy gets off saying his IOS app doesnt have to work with the rest of plex… that it is its own app,… and that if. I controlled the ipad with an iphone that would prove his code works… dipshit… and then he defends the iphone casting to ipad as a valid use case…
Plex used to serve movies for movie buffs on big screens and was a home theater…
Now its for kids that live in their parents basement and watch movies on their iphones since they don’t have friends to watch anything with on a TV if they could afford one…
Its time plex gets back in the game… I mean come on… how long is the PMP going to be in beta…its a frigging media player … not like it runs a nuclear sub or anything…
So I installed the version of 1.7 that is posted on github and the iOS app still doesn’t work for me so hopefully they will push an update soon. @elan i am kind of curious what your take is on the status of plex media player. As someone who uses my htpc it is odd that plex only has a client that hasn’t been updated in about a year and a half. While i appreciate everything the team does, i am also willing to pay if i’m actually paying for a complete product. I have to say it would be hard for me to shell out money for a plex pass knowing i wouldn’t have client support besides the hard work of others.
This is a point that I have been hitting on for about a week now and there really has been no answer
Plex continues down a path away from the moviephile and more to the mobile crowd
As a pass user you will not find much value as a paid pass member because even paying customers are left with PMP which is the more than year long half baked ongoing beta that was supposed to replace PHT when they decided to abandon it.
Right now on several PC and pi clients, openPHT still takes the lead in stability and function. Hell plex broke IOS to PMP functionality almost a week ago and still have not released the fix to PMP that is not a RC to a beta … and the RC as always… has major issues with audio and other key functions… so while it may be fixing ios remote functions it still fails miserably at playing back content.
Plex needs to redouble its efforts in getting a fully functioning PMP to market otherwise the base… the users here that pay… the ones that are looking for big screen theater features will be migrating to other platforms or forking code to go in that direction…

as a plex pass member with a home theater PC I couldn’t have said it better myself ! I have already shifted to openPHT and would rather have my money put here.
I’m just happy we have some great people willing to work on PHT , it functions well and has some extras not found on the old so keep up the good work ! with that said it would be the icing on the cake to get the iOS app control back but i also use a keyboard so its not the end all. looking forward to 1.7!
over on my thread where we were asking the PMP devs for an update on when their code is going to catch back up and fix what the iOS team broke… plex employee bigwheel shut it down… a bit too embarasing for them I guess
