Any RF Remote options for Rasplex?

Hi,

I'm thinking about picking up a Rasberry Pi and using it for Rasplex (as Plex is my new love). While I am aware that the Smartphone Apps have remotes, and you can use IR remotes I was wondering if there were any Radio Frequency remotes available that work well and easily with Rasplex (assuming an otherwise typical setup)?

Examples could include:

Main thing I really want to know is if people have these working, easily, and find them usable? A search (which I did do) isn't turning up very clear answers...

Thank for any help you can give.

You should search the OpenELEC forum for this. Setup instructions should work for RasPlex too.

(RasPlex 0.2.x is based on OE 3.0, RasPlex 0.3.x will be based on OE 3.2)

I have done some hunting, but not coming up with any great answers. Also, I'm as much looking for people's experience actually using them and what they really like to use.

There looks to be a good selection of products here: http://www.geekbuying.com/category/Wireless-Keyboards-1558/1-80-3-0-0-0-grid.html

However I really can't find anything that has all of:
* Classic "TV remote like" shape
* Easy to access and use D-Pad with enter key in the centre
* Easy to reach play/pause and back buttons
* Not much else, especially not when they restrict or clutter access to the above. For the rare times I need it, I can plug a keyboard in.

I notice from your profile that you are using a Sony Bravia TV. I use my Sony Bravia remote to control Rasplex over CEC!

One remote!!!

Ah, this is my fault again. I should mention that the reason I revived the thread was because I’m moving the pi to a TV without hdmi cec.

For reference though: hdmi cec worked perfectly. If you can use it, do so.

Also, I’ve been forced to concede that I might not get RF. I prefer but do not require it now.

Personally I do have an RF keyboard to control my own RPi.
I've found a small RF keyboard of appx the same size as a PS2 gamepad, though flatter (no handles or joysticks).
It has a full qwerty keyboard ideal for PHT, in addition to a touchpad rectangle (useless for PHT).

I know from an earlier post that you wanted a keyboard shape similar to a normal TV remote control, but I honestly think that's unrealistic for a full keyboard. Even if you find one with similar shape factors you still can't hold and use it like a normal remote. There's simply no good way to reach all keys of a full keyboard using just one thumb and a fixed one-handed grip.

I've also found a number of small keyboards with BlueTooth interface, but the ones I've tried are no good. They all run out of battery charge in just a few hours or 2-3 days at the most, while my RF keyboard needs reloading with recharged batteries much less frequently (perhaps two or three times per year).

Best regards: dlanor

The Logitech dinovo mini is a good option that has a keyboard and touchpad and isn’t to big. It uses BT.

The Harmony Ultimate uses RF for the remote to communicate to a hub. The hub then uses IR or BT to communicate to your AV devices but perhaps it can use IP as well since the hub is an IP device on your LAN. It isn’t cheap but you didn’t mention that low price was a desirable characteristic.
