Anybody else still having issues DVR with CBS?

I know I posted about this before and had some good discussion but curious if others are still facing the problem? The problem most commonly happen with CBS shows, specifically Survivor and Amazing race. After a few updates since March, I have not had the problem of the last 5 min just crashing. 3 updates ago had a few rounds of no problems, now the last 3 weeks, the recording has random bad pixelization, and sound stuttering. It will go back to normal, then happen again. It looks very much like you see in DirecTV during a storm. It doesnt seem to happen to other channels, even a recording at same time. It also never happens on a Win7 Media Center PC recording the same show at the same time (same feed) so it is unique to my configurations of Plex, it would seem.

I am DVR’in to a Synology DS418Play, OTA signal, through HomeRUN and replaying on a Samsung SmartTV. Last week though running plex on the Win7 PC (pulling from the synology DAS) had the same exact results as viewing on the Samsung SmartTV (So i think that eliminates the viewing machine)

The good news is I never see problems like this streaming Movies off the NAS, nor do i ever see this problem on Agents of Shield for example. I have great signal strength on that over the air channel and like I said, do NOT have the same stuttering/pixel issues on the exact same recording at same time done via Win7 Media Center ( i have enough tuners to handle that.)

Any advice? Suggestions? I love Plex but am tired of the growing rebellion with wife and kids to just go downstairs and watching in on the WMC box :frowning: Plex is supposed to be my go forward solution to remove that box

Help…

I just updated with the 03/29 release and have not gone through a Wed Survivor with it yet, but was using the 03/13 plex pass update (cant recall the version). I update within days of each update.

If Plex is watching, wanted to let you know had the same results again last night using the latest build 1.12.2.4929. Stuttering, random pixaltion, on survivor (CBS) but not Designated Survivor (ABC). I even try watching it through the Samsung smart TV (the usual) and through a windows PC, same exact problems. Also, once again still DVR’ing both on a Win7 Windows Media Center at the same time DVR on the Plex Media Server via Synology 418Play. WIndows Media Center had no issues, totally smooth and flawless. Both recordings are using the same OTA antenna, and HDHomeRun Tuners, so not a air signal quality issue. I am happy to provide logs if that would help? Or any other things to look at and provide to help. It is crazy to me that Win7 WMC can handle this with 11 year old code. I want Plex to work as I fully expect MS to kill off WMC at some random moment. Frankly, I think we are living on borrowed time that they keep the EPG up and running.

Same problem now the specific show become unwatchable via plex due to all the stuttering and pixelation, yet perfectly fine on Windows Media Server (as above, same infrastructure and same time)

The issue I reported here was coincidentally also while watching CBS. Tuning to NBC, on the other hand, works great.

Thank you Phiredrop! So maybe I am not going crazy or just my setup. The latest drop actually has made it worse. CBS recordings have become just unwatchable, but exact same set up records ABC, NBC, others just fine.

I have some samples of CBS issues I’m having on a thread I started a while back:

See if that matches what you’re seeing?

DVR failed to record another CBS show last night with a transcoder error. 7:30 local time (Mountain). Logs attached.

“There was a transcoder error”

All other shows are recording as scheduled.

Thanks for sharing Amazing and Phiredrop…Amazing I went and checked your thread and yes I think it is similar. I am saddened to see it didnt look like any plex staff answered on that thread either or had any advice…or suggestions…

This week my Win 7 WMC unit finally died, so there goes my CBS backup reliable. Tonight will be interesting for CBS and Survivor. It is only my Plex server (via Synology) on the HDHomeruns and using the latest version. I have started to dread the Wed family “we dont even want to watch in plex Dad…cant we just use WMC…” the answer is now…well…NO.

Plex you movies and donwloaded content great… LiveTV and DVR…Voodoo chicken dance and roll of the dice every time.

Looks like you are getting a network error trying to connect to your tuner:
Apr 16, 2018 19:29:06.839 [0x7fd5eb3ff700] ERROR - [Transcoder] http://192.168.1.31:5004/auto/v4.1: No route to host

Have you looked at the device log to see if there are any messages around the 19:29 time frame? Should be able to access the log using: http://192.168.1.31/log.html.

Have you tried moving the antenna to a different spot?

Plex seems to be a bit more sensitive about signal quality compared to simply streaming via VLC. I’ve had similar issues recently that got resolved by moving my antenna to a different location.

I’ve been seeing an issue with CBS recording as well, but only with ONE show. In my case, I just record news programs. The daily local news recordings work great. But the national daily and weekend shows appear in the schedule and show status like they are recording. But once the show finishes, they never appear in the display.

At one time I was trying the beta transcoding function, but that was disabled a while back. The weird recording behavior with this one show remains.

I believe I did experience the tuner freezing and needing a power reset.

For what its worth (and to be fair) the last 2 weeks of CBS have gone smoothly. I am using Version 1.12.3.4973. Survivor and Seal Team both recorded clean and none of the prior issues? Perhaps it was fixed in that build? I will update tonight to the new version I see out…and cross my fingers for this weeks wed. CBS shows.

Looks like it might be fixed now. Going on a full month of no CBS issues when recording.
