Anybody had luck ordering Battlestar (1978)?

I cannot seem to get Plex to read them in order. I’ve gone into the show’s advanced settings and tried every episode ordering option but they’re all the same, even though they’re not the same on tvdb.

I’ve never had any problem at all with either “Battlestar Galactica” but I do not really get concerned unless there is some discontinuity where one episode refers to another. in such a way as to make understanding difficult.

If you really want to force a desired order then you can, outside of Plex, rename each episode so they appear in the same order you want. All you need do is change sXXeYY to what you want. That is something like changing:
Battlestar Galactica - s01e06 - The Lost Warrior.ext
to
Battlestar Galactica - s01e07 - The Long Patrol.ext

Note: Everything after the second dash ( - ) is meaningless to Plex so, if the renaming gets tedious you could just use “Battlestar Galactica - s01e07.ext” and neither Plex nor you will notice the difference.

Also the name of the series is :“Battlestar Galactica” not just “Battlestar” and the date (1978) only needs to be in the folder name. You can leave it off the actual video files. In fact you can just name the video files “SxxEyy.ext” and Plex will work fine if the folder name is correct… But I do not recommend that last. It makes maintenance too hard or confusing. and it “might” not be supported at some future time.

This show can be a little complicated due to how TVDB and TMDB order the episodes. I ended up naming my files using TMDB ordering and their strict aired ordering rules which also splits the shows into four different categories…

Battlestar Galactica (1978) {tmdb-501}
Galactica 1980 (1980) {tmdb-4621}
Battlestar Galactica (2003) {tmdb-71365}
Battlestar Galactica (2004) {tmdb-1972}

… which includes the miniseries from 2003. If you want I can provide a text file with the naming I used for reference.

One other note about this series:
The first two episodes are often combined into one episode and that causes the naming to be off. You can name episode one so it is episode 1 and 2. That would be something like s01e01e02 but I do not do that my first episode is named s01e01 but the second is named s01e03. I do not care and neither does Plex care that an episode is skipped.

I try in all things to do things the easiest way possible. I also have had problems with only one of my TV series I have about 750 TV shows and careful naming makes Plex (and Emby) find and catalog everything, except one, perfectly.

As I said above I use the naming from Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 (1978) — The Movie Database (TMDB) but if you want looking at your naming you should be able to use TVDB aired ordering as they look to match Battlestar Galactica - Aired Order - Season 1 - TheTVDB.com

Just change the episode ordering to TheTVDB (Aired) and force a refresh of the show afterwards to update the metadata (as per below).

I personally dislike TVDB which is why I don’t use it but as I say it should work.

Zero problems as long as the folder name is “Battlestar Galactica (1978)” If you forget to add the year it defaults to the new series.

Yeah that’s not the issue
