Anyone Else Having Remote Access Problems With Latest 1.15.1.791 Update Using PMS On Windows 10?

Server Version#: 1.15.1.791

I see in another thread people who are using a Linux based system to run PMS have experienced some issues with the latest 1.15.1.791 update where devices in their home network cannot seem to connect.

I am running PMS on Windows 10 and after the update I have not been able to keep Remote Access up and I get the red icon, instead of the green check-mark showing it’s fully available outside my network. Nothing has changed on my end. I’ve used the Port Forwarding method to keep Remote Access going and it’s been absolutely rock solid for probably the last 2 years. Now I can’t get it to stay connected. I’ve checked all the normal stuff, rebooted the computer, router and modem several times, nothing has changed but I cannot longer maintain a Remote Access connection anymore.

When I first noticed this and did my first re-boot, there was some Windows Update that installed as well that has me just slightly concerned as I know those can sometimes be troubling but I can’t remember where to look. If turned my Firewall completely off and no help so I don’t think it’s a Windows Update firewall issue.

Anyone else having similar issues after this latest update with Remote Access running PMS on Windows 10?

After installing the latest update yesterday on my Windows 10 PMS, I am also seeing remote access randomly being unavailable. If I select and deselect the manual port option it will become available again for a short time before then going unavailable. The very odd thing that I am seeing is that some users are actually able to connect and they show a lock next to their session. I then had a few users connected with an exclamation (unsecured) connection. Then I had other users that could not connect at all. Prior to this last update this has never been an issue.

There was a post on another thread stating to logging out of your account and then logging back in fixes the issue. I have tried that and it is working, but until it goes a whole day without going back down I consider it still broken. I have gone many months without any remote connection issues and now it is popping up every hour.

I am having the same issue. I’ve had no problems with remote access in years but ever since the new patch it has not worked. I tried to log in and out and reboot the server but neither seemed to have an effect.

Occasionally on windows, the network interface loses the ‘Private Network’ connection type designation and may end up as ‘Public Network’ or ‘Unidentified Network’

Would be worth checking if that has happened and eliminate it

If he local ip of the server is fixed through dhcp reservation /or static outside dhcp range, then most reliable option should be to stick with having a port forward in the router and manually specified port ticked and public port entered in the box

There have also been cases of routers losing dhcp reservations or port forwards - sometimes after an ISP triggered silent update to the router configuration - so worth checking these

With regards to plex web server settings, there are timing issues that may result in the plex web remote access settings indicator may give false indication about availability and a browser refresh with F5 button may clear it

If problems persist, would need debug server logs after an F5 refresh of the server remote access settings page and screenshots of router dhcp and port forward. Please do this after a restart of the server

I’m having the same problem with remote access since the last update. I reboot PC, stays on for awhile then shuts off. People text me and tell me they can’t access Plex? I’m guessing i will have to go back to a previous version.

Not aware of any issues with the new version of Plex Media Server. Best to get diagnostics so the issue can be understood

Please ensure debug logging is enabled on the server
See
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/

Restart the server to make sure fresh log files are created

Then when the issue arises, please take screenshot of server remote access settings screen with show advanced and note down the time and collect the server logs
See
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/
and if using a manually specified port, to provide router settings screenshots of the DHCP Settings (Reservation) and Port forward rule

And please describe the problem and at what time it arose

Thanks

Thanks for the response. I narrowed it down to my VPN. When its on remote access goes away?
