I’ve been using Plex for awhile now and I just installed an update.
Now I can’t access my server outside my network.
It says: Not available outside your network
Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network
I don’t want to identify a port, identify in router with port forwarding, etc.
Update: Now it says Fully accessible outside your network but I am not able to access it outside my network. It does work on wifi though…
Update: Now it is back to Not available outside your network what a pita
Is anyone else having this problem?
Same problem here although it’s not as bad if my server is on my 2.4Ghz signal. If I connect to my 5Ghz signal it stays undiscoverable outside my network.
Before this update I had ZERO issues with being able to connect over the internet. I constantly have friends telling me they can’t get on and it was driving me nuts. If I then would remote into my PC sure enough there would be a red x and a statement saying remote access was unavailable. I too don’t feel I need to set up static IP’s and port forwarding when my router supports UPNP and has been working perfectly before this update.
So I found one of the previous builds and installed that and all is back to perfect working order again. It was a version I downloaded on 8.27.16 so it’s not far back at all really. I’m staying with this until they fix whatever it is they broke.
Same here! I posted about this a few days ago and have heard nothing. They seem to be too busy with other things. I had this same problem a couple of PMS versions ago and then the update fixed it. But this latest update has brought the problem back!
Solved in my case…
(I’m running PMS Version 1.1.4.2757 )
My current setup is that I have a modem that connects to the internet and that modem is connected to my router. I had port forwarding and upnp setup correctly on my router. However, I totally forgot that my Modem has a built in firewall as well.
Be sure to login to your modem (DSL or Cable) and make sure the modem firewall has the right exceptions or just turn it off completely (since I rely on my router as the firewall). Once I disabled the modem firewall. All was working well.
Another thing that I discovered with the modem was that the settings didn’t take stick until I rebooted the modem. Even though the GUI said the modem firewall was disabled, I had to reboot the modem to make it stick so just a heads up.
To get access to your modem, most modems have a sticker with the login/password credentials. Otherwise, call your ISP and ask for your modem’s credentials so that you can disable the firewall.
Prior to the current update, I had remote access, everything was perfect.
Last update has broken something, because now I have no remote access, I changed no settings. This is all update caused.
I had this issue when I upgraded to 1.1.3.2700 so I rolled it back. I upgraded yesterday to 1.1.4.2757 to solve another issue with Synced media, and what I did this time was I signed out of my plex server, and then I signed back into it. It’s been accessible outside my network, so maybe give that a shot? Make sure to launch Plex from the system running it, then sign off it and then back in.
not really t/s, but backup server running old version still works FINE, so ruling out the router/modem
Turn McAfee FW off and works, turn on no work, have the same configuration as before update
Removing & Adding PLEX from “Firewall” -> “internet connections from my programs” didnt’ work
Removing & Adding PLEX local port 32400 to “Firewall” -> “Ports and System Services” didn’t work
Noticed under Ports & System services a drop down stating “Open Ports to:” in my config it was set to “PCs in work & home networks only”, switched to “all PCs” and now remote access works again.
My PC is currently setup as “Private” under the network settings, not sure if that would affect anything if i were to set it to "home’ or “work” but will fiddle with it a little more once my blood pressure returns to normal.
All that said, I can’t say for sure that this was a plex update and not a McAfee update issue. However I didn’t have issues with the remote access until upgrading the plexmedia server.

I had the same problem not being able to connect to my PMS outside of my network. I solved the problem by making the following change to Mcafee Total Protection’s firewall:
click Internet Connections for Programs -> Plex Media Server -> Edit -> change Incoming and outgoing access from ‘designated ports’ to ‘open to all devices’
using 'open ports to Work and Home networks did not work.
I left Netguard on and still worked.
