LOL @ChuckPa 10 days and its still loading metadata. Thatās insane. I guess mine would take some time also. So far Iāve uploaded about 1,500 files but that includes some movies in there. And it takes time since I canāt have plex autoscanner work in my implementation of ACD+plex. I have to manually go in and sync the FS so plex can see the changes and then manually refresh my libraries. I share my server with my 5 other siblings and all 6 of us are constantly dumping files on our shared amazon drive account (because i paid for prime and storage xD) Iām not even remotely finished uploading my files. I still have a ton of anime for my nephew and a lot of VHS movies I need to put on.Also Iām not sure if anyone noticed this at plex HQ but i did and it was funny. It better have been a remux or i will be disappointed.
Sorting out any performance issues like this is exactly what the Beta is for (12 days and still loading⦠not that Iām counting haha).
Why canāt you let Plex do a āPartial Scanā when changes are detected? I do. That uses the iNotify mechanism and only scans the additions/changes.
Some techincal limitation of acd_cli I assume. Basically I sync ACD using acd_cli. Then after the sync gets changes I mount my acd contents using FUSE which then afterwards I point plex to (after the permissions are set so it can view the files, had to run plex as its own user because of permission issues or else plex canāt see the directory when its running under a user)
So in essence trying to use partial scan is kinda useless in my format because the filesystem does change until āacd_cli syncā is ran to update it. its clunky but it works. I want to compare it to Plex cloud in terms of performance to see how well it does compared to this but still no invite on my end. Also always having to transcode dts audio on iOS sucks. Surprised its not offered when you buy the app purchase (which btw should be tied to your plex account like plex pass). Most of my clients can either playback direct or direct video.
by invitation primarily, I guess \_o_/ , because we do a lot in the forums to help others. that said, since we do take load off the employees, this is plexās thanks for continuing to volunteer our time.

While the ACD file system doesnāt change until the upload is done, What PMS will see is the āatomic addition / changeā of a file. When Plex Cloud starts, thatās the āincremental changeā it detects⦠that new file.
As for Sync and the other premium features, those are included with your Plex Pass. If you do have a Plex Pass, all the apps are included with it otherwise the server is free and the indivual apps are paid for 1-time. I think thatās what the āFreemiumā licensing concept is about but may be way off base here so please forgive me if I am

hmmm Iām not sure you understand. It might be something I would have to show you. But itās what plex cloud is before plex cloud was a thing. I donāt know what the backend of plex cloud is like but it must be similar. If youāre interested in seeing my setup I can give you a tour of the software behind it. Just shoot me a pm.
Yea this was before i had plex pass. Iām trying to save some cash for a lifetime pass. #studentlife

Iām pretty sure youāre talking about Plex Cloud Sync. Thatās an entirely different thing. You donāt get a server with that. Synced content is being transcoded for direct play from cloud storage.
Oh, I remember #studentlife. It was followed almost immediately by #starvingengineer and #earlymiscellaneous decorating phases.

Itās not plex cloud sync. My server is a clone of what Plex Cloud is. Allows me to use Amazon Drive to store my content and have a local plex server (my computer/server instead of plex controlling it. I do) transcode and fetch my files from amazon drive for playback to any client. And if the client can play the media without any work it just throw the full mkv at them. It was a lot of work but I got it to work and it works fine apart from the occasional buffering here and there. But thats just because I have my server located in NY instead of a country near me in the EU. I made it easier for my brothers to stream.

Oh, I get it
. I had the same idea when I heard of Plex Cloud. But I think Iām too far from Amazon DCās for it to work without giving me a reason to curse every minute
. I guess I could try it with some local storage provider but that would be too expensive.

I live in europe most of the year. Works fine for me. But then again my internet isnāt complete garbage unlike comcast and at&t. If anything some buffer takes like 10secs or so
As for Plex Cloud, Cloud Sync, and (the fun part) Media Optimizerā¦
Does this help?

I was talking about the latency between Amazon Cloud Drive and Plex Server if I put the server locally
.
My pipe isnāt that bad, but roundtrip times from Poland (where I live) to Amazon DC in Frankfurt are surprisingly garbage. Besides, Iām not even sure that my ACD would be hosted there.

Ah. Yea Iām in romania. I have my ālocalā plex server hosted in New York. I connect to the New York server for playback of most of my stuff. That server is what does my transcoding. You just need a good download speed to support the bitrate of your video. Most 200mbps+ connection will suffice. Even if you have 100mbps its fine. You only need the upload speed locally if youre not playing it on the computer. Iāve tried to get acd_cli on my macos sierra but it doesnt read the directory which i need to solve. Itās a lot easier on ubuntu.

Like I said - Iām not concerned with the connection between the client and the server. Plex is good in addressing those problems. Iām concerned with the connection between the server and the storage
. I have a decent home connection but itās the latency that worries me
. I remember what happened when I tried to mount Google Drive on Windows with ExpanDrive. The latency killed it. It was unusable
.

I say give it a try. setup a ubuntu server and see. Amazon Drive performance is light years away from google drive. when mounting use acd_cli not expandrive.
Anyone currently testing⦠Does plex home work with cloud? Can you assign cloud libraries to individual home users?
Still eagerly waiting for my invite
My terabytes call on you plex cloud!!

Yes it works with Plex Home and assigning libraries to users
I am very anxious to play with this and have been uploading my library to Drive since the announcement and am currently up to around 2.5TB, which is about a quarter of my total library. I will be very interested to see how the direct Blu-Ray rips I made with MakeMKV work with both my Intel i3-based Embedded Plex Media Player and with players that require transcoding (i.e. Roku boxes, smart TVs and tablets). I had to use the Optimizer on my local server to avoid transcoding. It will be interesting to see what happens with Plex Cloud.
