Library not displaying properly

I’m new here and frankly I’m getting frustrated… I’m sure I’m doing something wrong; I fear it’s a case of ‘can’t see the wood for trees…’ Any help greatly appreciated.

I have dozens of TV shows that I have sorted into folders in the following way:
\TV Shows\Automotive\Top Gear\Season 1

When I first installed PLEX server the scan only picked up a few of the shows and after a quick search I thought I had it sussed as the naming convention was incorrect. I have started editing file names to accommodate the convention. But still no joy. I have ‘scan my library periodically’ on and set to 15 minutes. I have checked the logs and the process appears (ocassionally) to be processing these ‘new’ folders, but overall it appears to be getting worse.

I have now moved Top Gear to \TV Shows\Top Gear\Season 1 and allowed the process to do it’s thing and still no luck. In fact the process has now run twice since I dragged the folder to the root and it’s failed to recognise there has been a change.

Saying that there seems to be an exception the rule; ‘24’ seems to be fine despite following an incorrect convention!! (24.s01e01.blahblah)

To further infuriate me; now even files that were at least playable before (but not in the correct folder) appear to be ‘unavailable’.

Do I just have too much? Is PLEX incapable of handling just 3Tb of TV shows? Can’t be. Where am I going wrong?

Cheers

I suggest you re-review your files. Make sure the folders are properly organized with no extra levels – it appears you already considered that for Top Gear by dropping the Automotive folder. Similarly make sure the files are named ok – Ideally they should be following the schema <Show Name> - sXXeYY - optional information that'll be ignored.ext (where XX is the season number, YY is the episode number and .ext is a placeholder for your actual file extension).

When you’re done, create a new TV Show type library and point it to the TV Shows folder.

I suspect things got a bit crazy in your current setup due to the moving of files which Plex had already indexed.

Thanks for your response. Sorry for the tardy reply; been away…

After rebooting PLEX has starting re-indexing.

Still randomly cataloging items that are nested in sub-folders and also not following name convention…

I’ll play some more…

Thanks again
