api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll missing error message

I have been trying to fix this on my own for days. I have no idea how to get this issue resolved, run Plex, and go on with my life.

I am using a Windows 7 Home Premium (x64), SP 1. I got this computer primarily to run Plex. The hard drive was just formatted and the new OS, drivers, etc installed. The only other programs I’ve installed on here are Magic DVD Ripper and Copier.

When I tried to run Plex the first time, I received the “api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll missing” error message. In an effort to resolve this I have:

  1. run windows update (just ran indefinitely)

  2. download windows update from microsoft site and tried to run from there (just ran indefinitely–I even tried running over night per MS website)

  3. install and run VC redist 2015

  4. ran wsus offline to update windows

  5. searched .dll issue on plex community site. got following idea (steps 4 and 5 below) https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1187243#Comment_1187243

  6. tweaking.com repair registry (ran twice)

  7. microsoft fix it https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed

  8. run windows update overnight per https://www.winhelp.us/reinstall-windows-update.html, “Windows Vista and 7 slow while searching for or installing updates (fixed in May, 2016)”

  9. installed and ran windows 10 sdk per TravisNave http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/installation-licensing/api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0-dll-is-missing-autocad-2017/td-p/6231310
Method 2: If the above did not work, then here is my advanced solution. The Universal CRT files are part of the Windows 10 SDK kit. Installing this kit and placing the CRT DLL files into the AutoCAD 2017 folder seems to resolve the issue.

  10. Download and install the Windows 10 SDK kit: https://dev.windows.com/en-us/downloads/windows-10-sdk

  11. Copy the entire set of DLLs from the resulting location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Redist\ucrt\DLLs\x64

  12. Paste the files into the location where AutoCAD 2017 is installed: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2017

  13. Launch AutoCAD 2017 to complete the installation and licensing of the product.

I realize I’m becoming more and more desperate to get Plex to run. At this point, I just want to stop and ask if anyone has any other suggestions. I do not know what else to do. After trying step #9 above unsuccessfully, I found several copies of VC redist. and tried to uninstall a couple I thought maybe I had duplicated by mistake. Now, I’m getting a “VCRuntime140.dll is missing” error message when I try to run Plex. Sigh.

Can anyone help me get Plex to run?
Thanks.

Did you resolve this? I’m having the same issue with Win7 x64

You can’t update Windows successfully?

No, it hasn’t resolved. I’m trying to work on this again. My last resort is going to be installing Windows 10 which I totally do not want to do.

If I find a solution, I will post.

I’m also having this problem after a fresh reinstall! X(

I have the same problem. Haven’t used Plex before, and probably will continue to not use it (since it doesn’t work.) Shame, looks pretty cool.

I finally found the time to return to this. I installed Windows 10. After Windows 10 updated itself, Plex began to work properly. I initially started out with Windows 7 which Plex says it supports. But Windows 7 never worked for me.
Thank you to those who responded with help.

This actually worked thank you for this tip
