Player Version#: Plex for Windows 1.67.2.3705-db506a00
Windows 11 version: 10.0.22000 Build 22000.
I’m setting up a new Windows 11 laptop and one of the first things I did was install Plex for Windows.
However, the app won’t start, citing these missing DLLs.
MSVCP140.dll (listed 3 times)
VCRUNTIME140.dll
I found a 2017 thread for this problem stating the cure is downloading the x86 version of the DLLs from the official site:
However, this didn’t work. The installer said the package was already installed, and Repairing the installation didn’t make Plex for Windows happy. I tried the x64 version too with no luck.
Now, this Windows install is pretty new and has not gone through the hours of Windows Update downloading and installing you always have to do with a new machine. Maybe that will fix it? I have used Plex for Windows on Win 11 before. But I was surprised to see a Plex client blow up like this on a minty fresh OS install.
If there is a new Visual C++ redistributable that will address this problem, I would love to know about it.
EDIT TO ADD: I found an update that fixes the problem.
Choose the x64 version. At the time of this writing, this is the direct download link.
