Set up my first plex server this past weekend and watched a show last night using XBox One client and everything was looking great. Today i come to my Xbox One Plex app and I get an unresponsive app with a small barely visible spinning circle in the middle of the screen. It shows a bunch of the movies that i have and i can move around the screen with the controller but am unable to select anything. Tried quitting the app, un/re-installing, invalidating the device from server settings and reauthenticating…nothing seems to help. Everything runs fine from my ipad so i know the server is working and my son is watching a show from his ipad and the server running the plex server shows low cpu usage so it’s not overwhelmed or anything and the network settings test connection in xbox shows internet connection is good. Any idea what went wrong and what i can do to fix this?
Did you try a hard reboot of your Xbox One ?
When the nagivation itself is broken, this usually fixes these kind of things.
i just tried the hard reboot and it did not make any difference. The rest of the xbox functions without any issues.
i believe i have found a pattern and a workaround for my issue. If i quit the plex media app using the menu in xbox for ‘quit’ then I have to authenticate (link) again. Then I am fine for most things…unless I try to watch any of the video’s that I added using the ‘Watch Later’ feature…as soon as I do that, then i’m back to spinning for everything until i do the quit/authenticate cycle again. It seems the watch later part of the xbox app is buggered up. Is this a known bug? should i report it somewhere? I’m brand new to plex so this is all new to me and would love to see it improve and I am aware that xbox app is still in preview mode…but it looks like it has great potential.
In another thread the developers have stated that watch later is indeed bugged in the current release and a fix has been added for the next patch. The next patch is currently in the certification process with the developers having an estimate of 3-4 weeks (But that is always subject to change based on the results of certification)
thanks, good to know an update is coming. I’m assuming this is an update for the xbox one app and not the plex server needed to fix this?
Yes, this is an update for the Xbox One app.
(But it does not hurt to be at one of the last server versions …)
