App launch stuck at splash screen w/ spinning circle

I have no idea what to do. I’ve tried restarting xbox, restarting the app, etc.

I am new to plex. I have my server running ‘correctly’ on my imac, iphone, macbook pro, etc. Not sure why the xbox app can’t get past the splash screen. Not sure what i could do to better pinpoint the issue.

Did you see the request for a Pin on the first startup of the app or was even this not working?

Is you server available from the outside of the network?

There is currently a bug where some items with unescaped characters are causing issues getting past the initial loading screen.

If you check your recently added content for items that contain these characters (Mostly < or >) you may need to add new content (or move other shows out and back into the mix to look ‘new’ to plex) as when they show up in a recently added hub (music/movies/tv) they cause the app to not be able to get past the loading screen.

mike4001, as sad as this is, I can’t remember for sure if i ever got to the pin prompt on first startup. But i am tempted to say “yes, i think so” because i remember the first time i loaded the app, this did not happen. (not that it worked, but, it didnt go straight to spinning wheel forever). every subsequent load - even after recent update - this behavior persists with no change. and yes, works outside the network.

jmckee… since i am new, all of my content is recently added. that kind of ‘check’ sounds heavy/manual, is there a fast way to do it? (for < or > ) can i just do that with the standard search on my computer?

well now i have some good news and bad news.

the good news is that i seem to have fixed the problem. the bad news is i am not sure what the exact fix was. i was halfway through deleting all my “<” characters, when i stumbled upon a (newer) reddit describing this problem:

i did the cold reboot thing, on spec, even though i had tried that last week and it didnt work - this time - it worked. hehe…

Cold reboot thing didn’t work for me. Time between updates and now this, I’m glad I picked up an Apple TV.

Currently, there is a bug that prevents the app from reading user storage during loading that cause the app to be unable to load. This thread is where the developers have posted the current status and workarounds people have used to get around this bug:
