I recently went from DSL to T-Mobile Home Internet. It works great except I can not add (upload?) movies to Plex. When I switch back to DSL, I am able to add movies from my media folder. Is this a port forwarding problem and is there a work-around? I view my movies on Roku TV’s.
Media files do not uploaded anywhere. They are on your computer and you tell your server on that same computer which folder they are in. New media of that type just go in the same folder. They don’t move anywhere.
Can you explain in more details your process
Are you using the T-mobile gateway, or have you connected the gateway to an external router and all devices are connected to that network.
Thanks for the replies. I am not using an external router.
Here’s a more detailed explanation: I put new movies in my Plex media folder and then start Plex (https://www.plex.tv/) on the same computer (no external NAS server). Normally, I would see my folders and just do an update. Now, I see the message “app.plex.tv is unable to connect to (my computer name) securely”.
From what I’ve read, I can configure the system to allow unauthenticated connection but, the catch 22 is I can’t log on to make the changes. I tried to do this with my cell phone (wifi off) to bypass T-Mobile gateway but still never got to the server. I’m assuming I was trying to access Plex remotely which will not work without work-arounds.
Good news (so far). I loaded the latest version (May 10, 2023) and so far the issue has been corrected. I had reloaded about 3 weeks ago (I guess just before the launch of this new version) and it did work for awhile back then. Hopefully, this new version will be a reliable and permanent fix.
Thanks again.
Have you tried going to Local IP address of computer with server:32400/web If you are on windows you should be able to click on the server icon in the task bar on bottom and choose Open Plex
