What makes you think that?
Of course there is a password.
You main account uses larry@foxgulch.com as it mail address.
You appear to have changed the user name of this account to larryj12.
Both this email address and this user name are associated with the same Plex user account.
So all of your client devices should either show this email or this user name as their plex accounts.
You seem to have changed the user name of one of your managed users to be the same as your email address. Which doesnât make sense.
Managed users donât have email addresses.
And you have given another one of your managed users the same name as your forum user. Which might also provide some confusion.
Managed users are for your family members, so they can have their own access permissions and âwatchedâ status.
You, yourself donât need and should not use a managed user account.
When experimenting with the DVR features, you need to make sure that your client has not been switched to one of the managed user accounts.
but no pwds associated with larryj12 meaning bitwarden didnât save a password. So I have no idea what it is.
If I donât remember (nor google or bitwarden) the password associated with âlarryj12â and the server is definitely has username shown as larryj12, as shown in the screenshot, how do I change the server pwd. I can put in a new password but server UI requires the current password for larryj12 which I donât have. (apparently)
I donât see the usual âforgot my passwordâ button to reset the password.
A few hours ago this account was named L J, (before you changed it).
So look for this user name or the email adddress in Bitwarden.
Each Plex client has a way of Switching Users.
Look for the User avatar or the user name appearing somewhere.
e.g. Android TV clients show it in the left side bar, at the top. Click on it.
The Web app shows the avatar in the top, right corner. Click on it.
I searched BitWarden for larryj12 or L_J . Also searched Chromeâs âvaultâ. Nothing shown. So in the server, the username is shown as larryj12 . How do I change the password if I donât know the current password for larryj12? The question is about inside the server, not on the client side.
Hereâs where I am trying to change the Pwd and canât do it because I donât know the current password.
You open a new âincognitoâ or âprivateâ web browser tab
and go to https://plex.tv
There, you click on the âSign Inâ button.
In the following modal, there is a âForgot?â link. Use it
Thanks. Now have a new password associated with larry@foxgulch.com and user larryj. I can sign in to plex.tv as larryj.
And miracle of miracles, I was able to get my first adroid device and itâs plex app, to bring up my recordings.
Next Iâll go around to the other three apps and see what luck I have there.
Otto, thanks again for your patient assistance. The validation method used by plex is very confusing to me.
Finally two Amazon Fire TV sticks and one generic Adroid TV app on a box. All working.
The password you signed up with plex.tv is the user you want to select inside the application (like inside the Fire Stick App). This user will be shown with a crown icon. Click on this one to start the application. Not one of the others (if any) marked as Managed Account.
Your server must show the user name you selected when you signed up at plex.tv.
Inside the client app, find their settings menu. Itâs a gear symbol on the FireStick . Gear symbol, then Applications +, then Managed Installed Applications, then Applications checked, then scroll to Plex Then you can either uninstall (then resinstall) or click Cear Data and Clear Cache. After linking (plex.tv/link) your device, and restarting the application, click on the user which matches the username in your server. Your recorded programs should be available.
It sounds to me that you created managed users without knowing what they are for.
You can remove them all and go back to a single-user operation here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/plex-home
Find the user name with the crown (should be on the top of the list)
Move your mouse pointer over it and notice the red X at the right end of the line.
created managed users without knowing what they are for.
Yes, my bad. But that is a convenient way to restrict what your kids have access to. Deleted the managed users as no kids in my household at this time.
