But none of my “apps” are able to connect to the server inorder to “serve” my recordings.
My server user id is lj (no spaces).
When is look inside plex I see the user name is l j (space between the l and j)
Also when I sign in to plex fourms, I think the username is L_J.
What can I do inorder to get my four apps (Amazon Fire Sticks) and two android boxes so I can enjoy the recordings the server is making.?
Did you maybe at some point create different Plex accounts?
In case your other apps are linked to another Plex account, this could explain why they cannot see your server.
This indicates that your DVR-enabled server is signed into a different plex account.
Considering that the account you are currently using (the one with the space) already has a Plex Pass as well, I think it is easier to change the plex account of the server.
(that way you only have to change it in one place, instead of in every Plex client device and app)
Login to the plex account without the space
go to Settings - Server - General
(make sure the right server name is displayed in the left side bar)
and Sign Out.
Then close this web browser window and open a new one, which is signed into the Plex account with the space.
Let it sit for a while. It should alert you that it found an “unclaimed” server in the local network. Claim it.
Actually, the account without the space appears to belong to someone else.
I don’t think your server is running under a different user account. (It’s a TrueNAS setup, right?)
Yes, TrueNAS Scale installed with 1.25.7.5604_1.6.25 plex installed in docker which came with TrueNAS Scale22.02.0 This part of the equation works perfectly. I have several TV shows recorded which I have independently "played’ with a linux video player.
In the server, under Account the username is “L J” without the quotes. See screenshot.
There is still a space between them. It just appears smaller due to the font’s kerning.
So check if your various Plex apps are actually signed into the same plex account.
Do also make sure to have the “Live TV” media source pinned in all apps.
(When you turn the side bar into the “MORE” mode, you’ll find it at the bottom of the side bar, among the other online media sources from plex.tv. i.e. not among the media sources from your own server)
One of my previously working Adroid apps is signed in as “L J” no quotes. I have a “Live TV” button but it streams Anthony Bourdain stuff. It is pinned.
Along the left side, I also have two Plex buttons. Pressing the one that has a circle with the letters Plex showers me with streaming stuff right now Anthony Bourdain. The other button also has the letters Plex but also has a triangle filled with red and an exclamation mark. It also gives me another helping of Anthony.
On Android TV devices, there should be an ellipsis ⋮ in the top, right corner of this Live TV screen.
Under which there would be a menu to set “EPG/guide sources”. Enable the one which bears your server name (and disable the other[s] if you like)
Clicking on the Elipsis shows two choices Manage Favorites and Manage Guide Sources. If I click Manage Guide Sources, I see a choice labeled Plex Channels with a check mark. I can’t change this. Clicking offers no other choices.
The plex client app version is 8.31.0.31311 I’ve prevously installed and unstalled and cleared data and cleared cache with no effect. This “app” came from Google Play Store.
For what is worth. Manage Favorites hasAdd channels to favorites from guide, and Or while watching Live TV and Favorites are synced between devices. Can’t tell if these are configuration items or if I can click on them or what it is. Also says No channels have been added to favorites.
Also I see I am posting here as L_J. Would you check and see what my username is according to your records? The server shows username as “L J” with a space but no underscore between L and J.
The forum allows a different user name than your actual Plex account. I went back from your forum account to your plex user account.
So that should be fine.
I suspect something is either disabled in your account or the DVR hasn’t been set up completely.
When did you last time stop and restart the server?
Is the online media source “Live TV” disabled in your account preferences https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources ?
Could you verify that it is enabled, then (in the Android app) sign out from your plex account, restart the device, then sign back in?
Alas, it’s the same. DVR, recorded tv shows are still there as well as the guide etc.
But after uninstalling then reinstalling from the Google Play Store, the plex app, still has along the left side "Plex (triangle red !) Plex with circle and >, and Live TV with a red pin. But no connection to server on 192.168.1.106.
This would be easier (I think) if I could go back to the old way where I told the app where to look for the server by supplying a URL.
I’m going up to another TV which has a Amazon Fire Stick and see if a different app makes a difference.
Found Version 8.31.1.31487 on the Amazon TV Firestick. upstairs After uninstalling and reinstalling to Amazon device, I have 8.31.1.31487, same as before.
But same buttons Plex and trianglePlex and arrow along the left side. Ellipsis gives only one choice in Manage Guide Sources and that is checked as Plex Channels.
All great if I wanted to watch Anthony Bourdain!
So same exact result as my earlier android box downstairs.
But if I aim Chrome to “http://192.168.1.106:32400/web/index.html#!/”, I can watch and see my off air OTA recordings I made with HDHomeRun. How to I tell these so called Apps where my server is located? Also all these devices are on 192.168.1,0/24
Also upstairs at the login screen for the Amazon device, I show myself signed in as “L J” space between L and J. Just for fun, I created another user “l_j” and attempted to login. Very briefly I saw “No servers found” flash on the TV screen.
Apparently I am NOT signed in as larry@foxgulch.com as I added another user to the app as larry@foxgulch.com and attempted to login. Lots of Anthony Bourdain again.
I give up for the day. Leave me any suggestions on how to point the “apps” to my server. I think I’ll look for a different app. One that doesn’t have to “sign in”.
Otto,
How many users do I need. Would you tell me which one is valid and what the username and password is. As it is, I am just flailing about getting no where.
Larry
So I show a password for Plex.tv (with a username of larry@foxgulch.com) but no pwds associated with larryj12 or larry.29.
If you can, just zero out the users that are invalid, then tell me what the username I should put in the server along with the password and email. I’ll change the pwd later.
Larry
