I am in the position of not being able to pay my subscription- despite being a subscriber for the last 4 years. Plex’s payment processor is rejecting my card, despite it being a re-issue due to expiration from my bank, so it’s the same bank and account that’s been used to pay my plex pass all along.
It seems that Plex is now using a payment processor who uses “Kount” to assess risk, and they determined that I’m too high risk. Why? I’ve no idea- and they don’t tell you. They don’t even tell the merchants why a card may be deemed high-risk. Apparently Kount is a black box, which will sometimes tells people that they shouldn’t do business with you, with no accountability, and no way see or contest your risk assessment. Funny that my card has never been rejected by anyone else.
I don’t use paypal (I rejected their ToS update last year when they decided to demand the right for them to sell my personal/financial information to whomever they chose perpetually moving forward as a condition of doing business with them), and I have only one card which touches the internet, which is tied to a limited account- for my protection. Unfortunately, keeping my finances safe limits my options in how I conduct business online.
I contacted plex support, who essentially told me there was nothing they could do about this. I’m posting on the forums in the hope that someone higher up in Plex actually hears about my situation, because it seems amazingly short sighted to use a black box for risk assessment and let that rule out doing business with people who’ve been subscribers all along.
