1)Why Plex can’t play DRM protected audio/video files from Apple Music ?
2) is it possible to organize stream player for Apple Music ( Apple Music channel or something like this) to stream Apple Music audio/video contents ( playlists, radio and etc)?
It will helpful to play Apple Music to Chromecast and use lyricfind.
- Because circumventing DRM like FairPlay (what iTunes/Apple Music uses) would be illegal and Plex is not illegal software.
- This can maybe be done on the iTunes channel. Not sure.
I’m pretty sure Apple Music already supports casting to a Chromecast? Are you using an iOS or Android device?

See SoundHound application. It can play DRM music (in time when Apple Music switch on). It’s not a problem how to play allowing DRM music from Apple music, if plex don’t know how to do it, ask Apple. We can load DRM track inside the player or music can copy from apple playlists or now playing. Why PLEX now have only his own inside playlists? Need to play music from apple playlists and playing now from apple too and show LyricFind lyrics. And not only music - DRM video too.

I am using iOS, I don’t have applications which support CHROMECAST for music/video and DRM support together. For AirPlay applications which use Apple music is exist. SoundHound or Music app from Apple.
SoundHound also like PLEX with PLEX PASS has a LiveLyrics. same like LyricFind, but work more stable. In SoundHownd Interactive karaoke style live music works only if you play Apple Music song.
But now bad news. Chromecast doesn’t support DRM songs, so for Chromecast it will be impossible to play it. Probably only if plex will transcode it from DRM to nonDRM on the fly, but probably this is impossible …
1 - Plex does not support playing DRM on any files. Music or movies. Or in any Plex client. iTunes stopped using DRM on music a long time ago and added an ability to get non-DRM’d versions for free. This would be the better route. You can then use the music on any program, not just Plex.
2 - Last I heard, Apple Music doesn’t support Chromecast. It supports Airplay, but only music. No way to include lyrics.
Soundhound application (not from Apple) play Apple Music songs with DRM and livelirics same as lyricfind!! Why plex can’t ?
Maybe Soundhound use some Apple Music API, because in this app impossible to save song offline .
For Chromecast I agree it is impossible, because chromecast can’t play drm.
iTunes can play DRM music from Apple Music now.
Being able to playback DRM content depends on the actual video/audio player used. In most cases, you need a custom player specially equipped and licensed ($$$) to play DRM content. Plex utilizes the default player from most devices and these default players do not support DRM.
Using DRM content also prevents PMS features like transcoding, sync, and auto bitrate adjustments from working.
There is an Apple Music API called MusicKit. I’m sure this is what SoundHound uses…it allows 3rd party apps to access and play Apple Music. I don’t know much about it, but I don’t ‘think’ it’s available outside of iOS.

@Agent_Cooper, I agree with you. Apple Music exists in Windows also or android. Plex can implement Apple Music to your app for Plex Pass members. It will be good. If $ is required , new Plex Pass members pay for that. SoundHound app is also not for free for now.
I think all this is mainly due to Apple and not Plex. Yes, the Apple Music app is available on Windows & Android…but what I meant was that I don’t “think” that Apple allows 3rd party apps (such as SoundHound) to play back music from Apple Music except on iOS devices. From what I can tell, SoundHound on an Android device, for example, only allows you to play back music from YouTube, not Apple Music. I know that Sonos can access Apple Music and it’s available on a lot of different platforms…so it’s technically possible, but I think Apple must keep a pretty tight reign on that kind of thing because outside of Sonos, I’m not aware of other 3rd party services that can do it (again…outside of iOS that is).
@Agent_Cooper, we only can recommend Plex to study this question about Apple Music!! Because it will be great Apple Music stream feature with LyricFinder for Plex Pass members.
So it is feature request.
SoundHound can same , but it is another paid app and not so comfortable. I don’t know why Soundhound don’t make Apple Music on android , I know that Apple Music original app exists on this platform.
But If plex can stream Apple Music to Chromecast somehow it will be great !!
