Apple TV 4 resume after pause broken

Server Version#: 4.53.0
Player Version#: 7.14.1
I have been experiencing issues with resuming playback on movies or shows sourced from my server after pausing them on my Apple TV 4 (all 4 ATV4’s have this issue…)… Funny thing, resume after pause will work if I am using Bluetooth headphones with the ATV4’s… This has been an issue for some time now and is to the point where I am tired of having to back out of the video, and resume it… PLEASE HELP! (keep in mind this is all on a local network and my server is a beast of a machine)

Running Server on a Mac, and have the same problem. After a pause, there is a 50-50 shot that it will just get stuck and I have to force quit the ATV app to continue.

Same problem here on Apple TV 4K

Same problem here, Mac server, Apple TV 4K, latest server and player software, started several weeks ago, makes the whole setup painful to use.

Confirm same issue here. macOS Plex Server + ATV4 and ATV4K.

yeah been having this issue since before christmas with three atv4ks connected to big homepod pairs

I think I have same issue. See my post from a few days…

Me too.

Hi all, if you have any reliable steps for reproduction, can you provide more information on that and a log from your Apple TV? Thanks! :slightly_smiling_face:

Edit: Located thread to pull logs off AppleTV - Apple TV Logs | Plex Support

Thanks for looking into this.

Unfortunately, I don’t know how to get a log off of AppleTV. If you can give direction on this, I’m 100% able to get it to you.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Launch “PLEX” in AppleTV.
  2. Log in to ANY Home User.
  3. Select ANY movie, by pressing the Play/Pause,
  4. Let the movie play, 30-60 seconds.
  5. Pause the movie, by pressing the Play/Pause, 1-5 seconds
  6. No response from the AppleTV Plex Application.
  7. All buttons appear to have no action.

AppleTV 4k: v14.4
Plex App: v7.14(1)
Plex Media Server: v1.22.2.4276

Additional Data Point - We have an Amazon Fire Stick with the most recent Plex App. I have not been able to replicate the behavior with the Amazon Fire Stick. Play/Pause works normally.

logging.zip (1.0 MB)

I know the zip contains multiple events, but if you want to focus on some clean test cases the last two should only be this problem.

com.plexapp.plex 2021-04-11–16-02-20-393.log: Verbose Logging OFF

com.plexapp.plex 2021-04-11–22-42-31-028.log: Verbose Logging ON

Let me know if you need anything else or any specifics to be tested.

Sooo, I may have found the root of the issue but I’m still testing. So far I’ve managed to successfully correct the problem by disabling the “Use Old Video Player” under the settings within the app. I’ve done this on 2 different ATV4K’s and it seems to of done the trick. The reason I use that feature is it seems to do better at streaming 4K content from my server… No idea what’s going on there… I may start another string on that if it doesn’t already exist. Then we have the Plex startup problem where the screens just blank and you literally have to hard close the app and restart it… Wondering if that issue is related to that quaint startup animation they decided to add… i could certainly deal without the animation if it meant the app would load the first time I try to open it. Sigh…

This problem is really annoying. Hopefully Plex will react!

Same problem. Been happening for months.
