Still the same lag for me.
Plex app on ATV is upgraded to 8.14, Apple TV Itself is upgraded to tvOS 16.3 and I am enrolled in the changes per DaveBinM. Rebooted ATV and No difference for me. Current settings are Match Dynamic Range and Match Frame Rate both off. If I enable either of them, the lag is much worse. As it is, it’s slight but noticeable on all content.
HW setup is Apple TV 4K 3rd gen wifi, Denon 3808, Sony A80K
I had this “fix” turned on for 4.18, and in a quick rest this morning before I left the house, the problem is still present. I gave it a true stress test by leaving match frame rate on, and the audio sync was very noticeably off. The issue is still fixed by switching back to the old player.
@DaveBinM Can you please check your DM?
I would like to test and prepped a video recording of before to be able to compare the difference once the patch is activated for my user.
@DaveBinM was kind enough to enable the changes on my account. Seeing some improvement, but there’s still some lag apparent.
For the record, here’s my setup:
Apple TV: Match Dynamic Range ON Frame Rate OFF
AVR-X1700H: Auto Lip Sync OFF
LG OLED G2: Match Screen and Sound BYPASS
So what is the best workaround for this (aside from using Infuse)?
From what I can tell/test, none of the above.
Denon X2800H (lip sync off), LG OLED B2, ATV 4K (Dynamic range on, frame rate off)
I think we need to start testing different frame rates and audio codecs. I’m very doubtful this has anything to do with video resolution, but framerate and audio type seems to make a difference in my testing so far. Perhaps if we all report what works and what doesn’t while focusing on those parameters a pattern will emerge.
I’ve been following this thread for about 5 months now, and I’ve given up and got myself an infuse subscription.
It works perfectly.
I’ll check back in to see if there is a solution after the summer, but this rocket science must be very difficult to fix.
Very disappointed as a paying plex pass user that I have to go to the competition for a useable product.
Has anyone at Plex reached out to the people at Infuse to see if you could simply license their player technology? Seems like a win-win. They remain independent, those who prefer Plex can use Plex, and you get help with all the issues.
Great idea. You wanna buy another lifetime Plex licence to pay for this?
A lot more people will buy them (including myself) with a working product. It might actually be cheaper to license Infuse’s player than to do the development in-house.
So I’m using the latest version of Plex server on my Synology NAS and 8.14 of the player with the flags turned on (thanks @DaveBinM) Use old video player is off in the settings. (Using match framerate and match dynamic range with audio set to auto in Apple TV settings.) I’m noticing improvements.
What I’m seeing is that AC3 or EAC3 (Dolby Digital or Enhanced Dolby Digital) seem to be OK or at least it’s imperceptible. (Stereo, 5.1, 7.1 doesn’t matter). However AAC 5.1 is still noticeably off as is DTS-HD. The type of video (FPS, aspect ratio, resolution) doesn’t seem to matter. For example switching to AC-3 track for the same video instead of DTS-HD or AAC improved the sync. The type of container also made no difference - AAC audio sync was messed up for either MKV or MP4 for the same source.
Perhaps there’s an issue with certain audio formats? The Apple TV doesn’t pass them but instead decodes them and then sends 7.1 PCM (or 5.1 DD or stereo if that’s selected in settings). I have mine set to auto meaning it converts to 7.1 PCM for everything except Atmos.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to exactly?
Neither of these options work for me. I have been using either infuse, or VLC, no issues with those apps.
A new beta version is out. I hoped in a good news about audio sync issue
If there’s nothing noted in the release notes, or we haven’t said anything about it, then nothing will have changed in that area.
+1 on the lips sync issue for me too on LG B6 directly attached to the ATV. Using the optical out or not makes no difference. Infuse works, both matching options on the ATV video settings are on. If off there is video playback stuttering or something like that.
At this stage, we have enough testers and have gathered enough feedback for now. Thanks all for trying this out. ![]()
