Would all this be solved of plex added an audio sync delay option? Where we could add or subtract XX ms on all files (in the general settings) and on a per file basis in the drop-down menu when playing a file?
It’s a bandaid bodge workaround. Maybe it should be there for us to patch things when it’s broken like this, but it should NOT be considered a fix.
It also needs to have LOTS of options. I see different sync with different files, with different audio formats, then you have different clients that have different audio format capabilities. No no no this turns into nightmare.
The plex client on my samsung tizen does not have sync issues, infuse app on appletv does not have sync issues. There is a real fix, somewhere.
Sometimes, there is only so much we can do. We rely on the devices in the chain communicating their latency to the Apple TV, and us being able to take that into account. Not all devices communicate this well, or properly, and in testing numerous apps and players, from Infuse, VLC, Apple’s AV Player, and our enhanced player based on mpv in different hardware scenarios (connected via AVR/soundbar or directly to the TV, with or without a soundbar connected via ARC), we found that none of the apps aligned with each other. Sometimes they were close, but never matched. For some of these situations, offering an audio offset option may help resolve the issue, and it would be a set and forget change. I wouldn’t write this off as a bandaid or bodge workaround. Other apps also offer this option, and it’s something we may look into as well.
Could you please clear some space on the TestFlight beta? It says it is full and my wife now really disapproves my recent Apple TV purchase because of the audio sync problems. Thank you.
Infuse on my Apple TV still has audio sync issues, even after their fix. I have to use the delay feature to add 100 ms.
It seems at this point it’s going to be very difficult for any player to fix this completely. I personally would welcome an audio delay feature in Plex so I can at least go back to watching my library (although I might stick with Infuse, as I’ve noticed it has better picture quality; but that’s a different topic…)
We regularly clear space, but it does fill up very quickly. In any case, there isn’t anything in beta that is different to what’s out now in terms of audio sync.
One thing that doesn’t make sense to me is why my media at 23.976 fps has an audio sync issue, but my PAL DVD rips at 25fps have perfect sync. Do your engineers have an explanation for this? Genuinely curious…
The audio sync we’ve seen has been fairly consistent across refresh rates, rather than limited to a specific refresh rate. I’m in a PAL region myself, and have tested across those formats too
Yeah, that’s what I thought. Infuse has the same 100ms delay that Plex’ old player has. I guess this is the bug that was introduced with TV OS 16 and that Apple don’t seem to be in a hurry to fix.
That’s really strange. I can assure you that my 25fps content is in sync, while the 23.976fps content has sync issues (that’s with the modern player). I just double-checked a couple of minutes ago. Might be something worth looking into…
That’s why, although not an optimal solution, an audio delay option might be a good idea. There are just too many variables. For example, Plex’ modern player has sync issues on my home theater system, but not on my living room system.
i still kind of notice the issue when using the tv speakers. Its not nearly as bad, wife doesnt even notice but i do. at a sound bar/receiver and its terrible. I have sony x90k with a vizio atmos surround system and another x90k with a simple 2.1 sony sound bar and issue persists on both but a lot worse with the vizio system.
