Apple TV 4K audio sync issues with enhanced player

I think everything in this thread is feedback. Even the “snarky comments”. Users should be welcome to voice dissatisfaction here, and the forum guidelines clearly state:

  • Don’t be afraid to identify when things could be working better in Plex software. We want to know.

  • Offering constructive criticism or voicing a dissenting opinion, but don’t be mean or disrespectful.

And another forum guideline you should take into account when responding to users is:

  • Assuming good intentions.

Don’t assume the criticism Plex is receiving has bad intentions or is a personal attack. Everyone here I can almost guarantee wants the app in question to work properly!

Some Plex employees come across very cold and unsympathetic to users at times, which lead to frustrated users getting even more frustrated and angry. The forum guidelines also state:

  • Feel welcome and comfortable
  • Leading by example. Treat others even better than you expect to be treated yourself and the forums become a better place for everyone.

It’s not just the users who should follow these guidelines when posting

As I noted previously, and after reading everything here, I am more convinced than ever (based on my experience in the world of web and software development) that there is most likely a stubborn dev/engineer that is ‘absolutely sure’ that the sync issues etc can’t possibly be ‘X’, so they refuse to look at ‘X’ as the issue.

One of my coworkers is like this and it is always a battle of pride and it leads to things not getting resolved/addressed as fast as they should.

There are no issues with voicing concerns, disappointment, frustration, or valid criticism, but make it constructive. Snarky posts are not helpful, and just add to a negative sentiment. There was nothing constructive in the posts I referred to.

I can assure you that is not the case. No one here is being stubborn, or refusing to look at a certain area.

In that case I (and surely others) would really appreciate if you could explain, why fixing this problem is taking years.

I guess your snarky posts are fine. What positives sentiments could there for a major problem that’s now over 3 year old that’s largely been ignored in that timeframe? Or other major issues? And when we ask for help we are told by the people we paid for a working product “we don’t give support”.

Do as I say not as I do definitely applies here

I’m not being snarky, just asking people to be constructive, and adhere to our guidelines

No. You want everyone to shut up about this issue. How are we supposed to be constructive when the simple fact is there’s an issue we’ve been complaining about for 3 years and zero movement towards fixing it.

To be fair, those who give constructive criticism or those who try to approach communication in a positive way are largely ignored. Just as I asked you previously “Do you think Plex will work out the licensing issues so it can properly decode TrueHD on the client side in the future?”

You didn’t bother to reply or give an answer to that, but yet you have no issue telling people not to be snarky days later instead of engaging in constructive conversation that could move the thread in a different (much more positive) direction.

The biggest issue with Plex that I see is Transparency. You guys could be working on the greatest video/audio update for your players and literally nobody would know about it because you don’t openly share that information.

It’s almost as if you don’t want users to be excited about what’s coming at Plex…

Dave what is your hardware setup? Maybe that’s why you can’t reproduce it? I have Apple TV → Denon Receiver → LG OLED . For me the audio is way ahead in Plex. Every other streaming app is synced perfectly.

Seeing the exact same here, just with a Yamaha TSR-700, newest Apple TV and a 2017 LG OLED.

Keeping match frame rate off helps, but when it is on, it’s extremely noticeable. Fine on every other streaming app, so it’s nothing in my device chain or settings.

I would think Plex would be testing on all the devices, specifically the newest ones?

It is very difficult to be “constructive” after three of four years with the same problem and NOT KNOWING anything about the cause of the problem. Whatever we have suggested that could be the problem the answer is nope, that’s not the problem. Then we are told lot of work and changes have been done but the problem is there. And then what broke the camel’s bag is that now we are told Plex can’t reproduce the problem.
Been blind in all these we all have to make assumptions, what else can we do? And since this is a problem that ONLY happens with Plex, even the simplest free player does not have this problem, we assume it must be something really basic, like Plex is not licensing the proper codecs, but then we’ve been told many times that’s not the problem. But we have as well history with Plex and Licenses (QT) and lack of clarity.

I, like any other one here, only want Plex to play videos correctly in which is one of the most popular players. We assume that’s not too much to ask. So you as well have to try to understand our frustration.

If you believe I am been “snarky” or “unconstructive”, I am sorry, that’s not my intention. I am just extremely frustrated with the lack of quality in Plex. And that there is no alternative in the market we can jump to.

Add me to this. Finally decided to post about it. Been an issue for me for about 2 years but been using infuse and came to check out to see if progress has been made.

Hilarious to see there’s been literally none in terms of progress and just a combative company talking down to their customers.

This is a great response to what seems to be a company/employees who gets all power trippy and what is seems to be the term “butthurt” when asked and his antics are called out because they literally have no idea what communication is.

Honestly if you are heavy Apple TV users and don’t feel like giving your money away again (emby), Jellyfin with infuse is basically perfect and doesn’t shove streaming crap and has a transcoder thats actually works with modern formats.

No one here is “butthurt”. We’ve acknowledged the issue, said we can reproduce it, and have some experimental work that has been tested by participants of this thread. Name-calling and comments that do nothing but cause further discontent or stir anger do not help, or make it any quicker to solve this issue and get it released. Being antagonistic doesn’t help anyone.

I don’t get it, why we can’t have a short explanation of what the actual problem is? It is already THREE years.

So long we don’t have that we will have to continue speculating. And in my case I will continue believing Plex does not want to pay for licensing some codecs.

I’ve stated previously that codec licensing has zero impact on A/V Sync. They’re completely unrelated. The issue is primarily to do with the different audio APIs that Apple offers, and how each of them works and how they handle latency between devices.

Still Plex is the only one having problems in the Apple TV.

3 plus years of being a paid app and still can’t t figure it out? I wonder how all these volunteer open source apps do it?!?!? :joy:

This is only one major problem. Dolby vision and the bush league implementation of it needs to be looked at too but I guess that’a years away from being fixed too.

Being nice hasn’t helped anyone in 3 years has it? no one’s name calling but if you think people are you are just proving my point that you/Plex are what I said earlier.

Banning people from your forums looking for help is a great look too. Keep doing it mister even keel.

I’d ask again for people to review the forum guidelines, and ensure they are adhering to them, and contributing in a positive way to these forums. Being antagonistic does nothing to help, nor do snarky comments. We want the forums to be a place where people can give constructive feedback, and interact with others in a positive way. No one will he banned from airing legitimate complaints, but being overly combative does not help solve an issue, and does not create the kind of environment we want for these forums.

I’d ask you to do the same based on some of your replies I’ve been reading through this thread.
