The sync problems in Plex on the Apple TV happen with direct play. No transcoding involved.
Pls I need for your suggest! My sweet and lovely and nice daughters have updated my AppleTv to the last firmware (Iād like to break their little fingers for this good surprise!).
Now Iāve got video stutteringā¦.
So Iāve tried to update the Plex ver, to the last one but nothing is solved
Any ideas?
Tks
I have sync issues, direct play or transcoding.
Hey Plex! Iām a lifetime subscriber who cannot use the product!
WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY AND FIX THIS ISSUE?
Pretty hard to watch content when the lips donāt match the audio!
Please let us all know what your timeline is for addressing this!!!
Plex has made an official reply already.
They have confirmed that this issue is not even on the timeline.
- They are not even working on the issue.
- The issue is not even on the timeline, and
- They are not even discussing where to put it on the timeline, but they might look into adding it to the timeline sometime later. Maybe.
But they indicated that āWe Hear You!ā, so they want you to just sit there quietly and not keep asking for it to be fixed.
After it has been added to the timeline, we can probably expect a few years before they reach that point of the timeline (this is just speculation from previous progression)
We have to wait for years?
Is it a joke?
Yeah man.
Come back in 2025. Maybe an update then.
This app should be pulled or have a giant disclaimer in the App Store that itās broken.
No words!
We have to hope in emby and in his quality themes/layout inprouvements
Nope. Plex team is completely serious.
This is not something they are even considering putting on the timeline.
They spent time reading the feedback and are 100% aware of the issue and the scope of the issue and consciously decided to not even reserve a single minute of resources to have this addressed.
And itās not rumors or unsubstantiated negativity. This is straight from the Plex team.
There is some hope because a user discovered the problems might be related to overheating:

(Not directly related to the sync problem, but potentially related)
thats not the issue, that a sympton of the problem. of course the cpu is going to be utilized more when the movie player engine is crap
I was a very vocal critic of the issue, but since plex released the audio offset feature, i set it once to +175ms and the audio sync issue is fixed for me on all my content. I know its not the answer people want to hear because we all just want it to work, but I honestly forgot about the issue ever since setting the audio offset. Have people done this and yet still having sync issues?
Iām going to take a wild guess these Plex devs are green text Android guys that loathe everything Apple. All theyāre doing is driving people away from Plex and not caring about their customers.
Not even closeā¦
I agree completely with this. I recognize that is not a real and final solution, but is a very effective workaround. In my case Iāve settled with an offset about 225 ms.
I really doubt weāll see any effective developments on the issue any time soon.
Fixed. I repeatedly and increasingly had issues. The latest was when the next episode would count down and begin⦠thatās it. it would not play. Along with the original issue. I tried everything with codecs and stream settings to no avail.
Every time I restart the Apple TV it would work fine for the first and second episode and then react as mentioned previously.
I selected āUse Old Video Playerā (On) and I have had zero issues with Plex on the Apple TV.
Plex not using a native Metal approach, like other apps (that happen to play fine), is the cause.
So, the shoddy Plex non-native rendering approach could definitely cause overheating in that regard.
I noticed I have to change the offset depending on the bitrate of the movie.
I, too, begin large software projects for platforms I hate.
He is not the only employee.
Many current and previous employees have hinted at their ālack of enthusiasmā for Apple here, as well as not even having the newest hardware for dev and testing.
