Apple TV 4K audio sync issues with enhanced player

I upgraded to 14.5 and did a quick test. It appears appear that AC3 plays fine with frame matching enabled, but DTS still has sync issues?

Format makes no difference for me. Watched AC3, EAC3 and DTS-HD MA 5.1 content so far and they’re all the same.

Just bought the Apple TV 4k to combine all my content into one place. Have now discovered this audio sync issue. Any pending updates from the Plex team yet?

I upgraded my AppleTV to tvOS 14.5 and now during playback, the audio in half my media audio drifts out of sync the longer it’s played. When you exit the current episode and then start where you left off, it’s back in sync. This has to be an issue with 24/23.976 or 30/29.976 conversion that was working in tvOS 14.4 and modified on tvOS 14.5 when using “Play Original Quality” with the AVPlayer.

When using “Convert Automatically” it doesn’t seem to be an issue.

I use both as well. I have the lifetime Plex and Infuse also.
I like how they are different and useful in their own way but some functions are definitely missing in both too. Sometimes Plex is weird so I have to use Infuse until Plex is fixed

Exactly the same situation here. Nicely summarised :+1:

Same issue here. Audio-video were perfectly synced and since about a week ago after updating to the latest AppleTV tvOS, audio goes out of sync the longer a movie is played. Any idea if there are any parameters I can change to fix this?

After doing the wireless audio sync in the Apple TV settings for every type of format I’m likely to play content in (as per the Apple support document “ If you have Match Content turned on, calibrate other display formats by switching formats and running Wireless Audio Sync on each one.”
(Set up Wireless Audio Sync with Apple TV - Apple Support) I can now have match frame rate on for most content the only audio formats still giving me grief so far are 5.1 ac3 & 5.1 DTS-HD.

Using the old player or turning match frame rate off remains the workaround for me.

Happy to provide logs etc to any plex devs that read this and want to squash this once and for all.

Yeah. Using old player seems like the way to go

Hi, is anyone from Plex watching this thread? I’m looking at other media server products now, btw. Really disappointing to see the lack of feedback/interest on this issue affecting a whole category of users.

@chrisallen @Stevenson-Price @chfredrickson @hsousa @randhawk Seriously, why won’t any of you address this? This is plaguing a lot of paying customers.

I am another one with this same issue. Plex app on AppleTV 4K and audio going out of sync on most material since the update.

I’ve waited to update to both the latest tvOS release (14.6, 18L5569) and the latest plex app (7.18, 1571) and the problem still exists.

I’ve even updated my server (which is running 1.23.1.4602 on macOS.)

Media that used to still be in sync is now out of sync. The only way to play it in sync is to have it “Convert Automatically”. When using “Play Original Quality” the media becomes more out of sync the longer it plays, which points to the 30fps/29.976 or 24/23.97 issue with images being in frames and audio being stored by samples.

Point being, it USED to be fine, so someone has to be able to trace back to when the issue started before the tvOS upgrade.

Is anyone listening?

Doesn’t look like anyone from Plex is listening at least

Believe they’re aware, @Stevenson-Price may you confirm please.

Same issue where movies that worked before are now having audio syncing issues
It also seems to be the same movies that are having issues and eventually the audio just stop playing. the kids can’t tell but it sure as hell bothers me.

Exact same problem here.

Same problem here :frowning:

Same problem since TVOS 14.5. Is there any workaround? I would even be willing to re-encode the files that aren’t working if I knew exactly what encoding works best.

Just updated to the current app and the audio drift still exists.

Version 7.18.1-Released May 31, 2021

This is really horrible because now all my media has to be “converted automatically” and some movies now stutter or completely cause the playback to fail.

I’m assuming that by posting to this forum and keeping this thread alive, SOMEONE in development will eventually investigate.

This is now starting to be unusable and not just annoying.

Can someone from development please comment on this issue?
