Apple TV 4K Dolby Vision

Server Version: 1.28.2.6151
Player Version#: 8.8 (3720)

I’m having some inconsistent behaviour playing DV files through Plex on my Apple TV. It’s connected to an LG OLED C7. How can I test whether or not DV is working correct? Is there a test file that I can use? If so, how do I tell visually if it’s DV, fake DV, or HDR?

Side note: how do I open a support ticket rather than forums?

You don’t. The forums are the only support.

As for fake DV generally (unless anything changed very recently) the Apple TV can only play Profile 5.
Also some profile 8 which is usually video shot on an iPhone.

If it’s profile 7 ie Blu-ray rips (usually they have both DV and HDR fallback.) Plex cannot play them on the Apple TV as true DV. Any triggering of DV on your LG means it’s fake DV.

For files to respect the devices capabilities you would need Infuse. It doesn’t do fake DV at all but does true DV or if it’s unsupported will fall back to HDR which is exactly what should happen.

As for test files just Google Dolby Vision test files.
Here’s the first result.

That is not correct. You just need some conversion to get MEL to work on ATV.

As for FEL, I recommend using your C7’s internal player. It’s been proved C7,C8,C9 can play FEL file. You may want to check the Dolby Vision Stuff under @RESET_9999’s signature. There’s a huge discussion regarding this on MakeMKV forum.
