Sorry if this has already been covered but now I have a DV capable TV when I use the Plex app to watch Blu-ray rips that have DV I indeed get the TV telling me it’s receiving DV content, but given all the different flavours of DV which streaming content uses versus physical discs, is Plex actually giving me proper DV or is it fooling the TV and instead I’m just getting regular HDR10 content from my DV rips?

I (as yet) have seen no difference playing this content via Plex or Infuse which doesn’t give me DV at all so I’m just wondering if Plex is actually using the extra metadata or not.

As you already suspect, Plex on the Apple TV is definitely NOT giving you DV from a Blu-ray rip. It’s simply forcing the Apple TV into Dolby Vision mode.
It’s a device limitation.

unfortunately due to apple the 6,7,8 DV profiles are not supported.
A big and big limitation. Even a 20€ firestick supports profile8.
So yeah, it’s tricking the TV into hooking into DV, but the metadata will be the classic static of hdr.
