This thread is specifically about dropped frames on the Apple TV fourth-gen, non-4K.
At the very least you’re going to need to provide client logs, and you may in fact want to start a new thread.

Only build 15095 has the fix and was pushed to a limited set of beta testers. Did you PM your email to the dev?
Oh I see… got the version 15061. How can I get my email added to get 15095? How do I PM de Dev?
FYI, same issue on both AppleTV 4 and 4K…
PM your email address to this guy:
However since you’re seeing a stuttering issue on both model types, it’s quite possible that you’re not having the same problem that’s being discussed in this thread.
@sergiou87 testing 15095 and so far looking good. I’ve looked at 5 or so shows that demonstrated the issue on the previous build and they look fine.
Will test more but looking very promising here. Thanks for the quick work!
Update: Done some more testing (ok when I say testing I mean watching tv) and all looking good here
Would this be the same issue that I am having with my Apple TV and Apple 4K TV and my plex server running on Windows Server 2019?
I’ve watched several x264 movies in 1080p and several tv shows in 1080p and 720p with no issues with dropping frames. Thank you so much for the fix! I’m sure myself and everyone else in this thread greatly appreciate it!
Unlikely; if I recall correctly that issue is with PMS running onWindows 2019, and not with the clients.
I’m still experiencing the frame wonkiness. On 4K Apple TV though. Match frame rate is off. Tried latest beta on TestFlight and still broken.
The latest TestFlight doesn’t have the fix. The fix was distributed to specific users requesting it via their email address; then they got a hold of that build through TestFlight. However the fix is not generally available through TestFlight.
Thanks. I misread the above comments then! Appreciate the reply.
A post was split to a new topic: Feedback on 2.17 Beta
Just found this tonight and was very happy to learn I’m not nuts. lol
I use a Gen4 ATV (non4K) and am definitely experiencing these intermittent moments of stuttering (lag) just as described in the first post.
I see the 2.17 Beta was split into a new thread. Is that where I’ll find continued progress on the fix for this issue?
This thread is about the player dropping frames and for those selected that have an update that is meant to fix it.
The other thread is about all other feedback on the beta release.
Having exact same issue. Been almost a month since I can bear to watch any content. When will fix be released? I do not want to have to install beta software to regain normal functionality.
Hi Captmase,
While I’m not a Plex Dev, the temporary solution for those on the non-beta track is to revert to the “Old Player” in settings. That should stop the stuttering until the new release is pushed (though it may force certain codecs to transcode instead of direct play).
@captmase – the fix was released yesterday, per this announcement
Just downloaded 2.17 on AppleTV. For some reason did not download & update automatically, so I updated it manually from within the App Store. It appears to fix the frame drop problem! Thanks, Plex guys…
I see occasional frames drop on my ATV 4 non4K with H264-AAC 60fps videos. Not happening very often, seems random. 720p videos. I use enhanced video player, I didn’t test with old player since it’s not happening enough to bother me. Plex player v7 with latest Plex pass PMS version. Direct Play on local server.
