Apple TV hangs after selecting new subtitle

When streaming a movie without subtitles on Apple TV, I use the built-in subtitle download feature, which works great.

However, after selecting a subtitle, the display keeps showing a loading spinner for eternity.

I can then only go back to the title screen, and resume the movie, before the downloaded subtitle is available. So it is downloaded, but somehow the Apple TV app did not get a ‘all done’ message.
