Apple TV Player Not Playing Alternate Language Tracks

Server Version#: 1.32.5.7349
Player Version#: 8.23.1 (6601)
tvOS Version#: 16.6

I’m trying to play media that has both English and Japanese audio tracks. Even when I manually switch the the Japanese audio track, the Apple TV player keeps playing the English audio track.

I’ve tested this on the web player and the web player switches between audio tracks just fine. But for some reason, it’s only the Apple TV player that won’t play the Japanese audio track when I switch it over.

I’ve also tried it with English as the default or with Japanese as the default. Either way, when it’s default or manually switching to the Japanese track, the playback settings show a checkmark next to the Japanese track but it’s the English track that plays.

Same problem here

Don’t change languages i select. Situation only on Apple devices

I have movies with spanish and english language but if i want to change to spanish i select the spanish language but the movie still spoke on english. This situation i confirm it’s on my Apple devices Apple TV, iOS and iPad OS. I check on Roku and web browser and this situation is not on this devices.

Do the files that do this have the same kind of audio codecs?

Would you mind providing the plex media info xml so we can try to find a similar file to reproduce.

Hi ,

Not the same audio codecs AC3 and EAC3. On the EAC3 codec the movie listen with the two audio tracks at the same time spanish and english.

Hi

I found the solution to the problem with Apple devices. It is very easy to solve it, you just have to enter the Plex settings, select quality and you have to turn off the option to automatically adjust the quality. If the problem still persists, check in the advanced options that the option to use the old video and audio player is turned off.

I have already validated the correction on iPad, iPhone and Apple TV devices, I hope it works for those who have the situation.

interesting. I will let our devs know so they can try to reproduce. thanks for the additional info.

Sorry about my delay in responding. Here’s an XML file from one of the videos I was having this issue with.

I find I’m still having the problem. Switching to ‘Convert Automatically’ fixes it, but the initial problem that it keep starting off playing the episodes saying it’s on the Japanese track but actually playing the English track, and not actually playing the Japanese track until I switch it to Convert Automatically.
