Apple TV still can't play 4K videos

Server Version#: Version 4.76.1
Player Version#:

Recently whilst having to redo my whole cloud hosted drive and having play everything through Infuse for the last few years I thought while I was doing the overhaul I might revisit Plex again and see if it was any better.

Imagine my surprise to find that the same issues seem to still exist with being able to Play 4K or even some 1080p movies from my plex server with my Apple TV 4K box still struggling to play anything without buffering every minute or so.
Infuse seems to handle everything I throw at it and yet Plex still don’t seem to have managed to fix any of their issues yet.

I think its finally time to cancel my Plex Pass and stick with Infuse, which is a shame considering Plex does a lot of other things well.

Without server logs and knowing “what you’re throwing at it” – not really fair.

Do you know you can link Infuse to your Plex server;
Use PMS to manage your libraries if Infuse is your preference.

I gotta say that I have a whole host of 4K remux files stored up in the cloud. Playback is barely ever an issue to be honest.
But there are plenty of issues elsewhere with the Plex Apple TV client.

Best to provide the logs @ChuckPa adked for.

How can Infuse be linked to Plex?

To be fair, I can throw any file at Infuse and it plays without any issues. I have never had an issue with any file. Plex on the other hand…

Infuse → Settings

Under NETWORK

  • Shares → Add Media Server → Connect to Plex
  • It will then ask you to go to Plex.tv/link and enter the link code.
  • It will then show the servers on your account. Select one.
  • It’ll walk through finalizing.
  • Select the library sections you want. (just like when adding media sources)
  • Finalize
  • watch it “fetching content” info from your server.

Well it’s nice that the employees at Plex are now admitting their client is garbage and it’s better to just use infuse.

Maybe y’all could do that before you trick apple users into giving you their money.

No offence but this adds no functionality to my existing setup whatsoever, in fact it actually just adds another point of failure if anything.

Infuse allows me to connect directly to a cloud drive (Google, Dropbox etc).
Plex does not, in fact with Plex I need a backend server and need to mount the drive using rclone.

So adding Plex to my Infuse setup is a more complex and roundabout way of adding my cloud drive and hence is useless to me.
