Have been using Plex for about 3 years. For the most part it’s a consistent experience. Mac Studio with gigabit Ethernet allows me to stream basically anything I want.
Since the last Mac/Plex/ATV OS update (listing all of them because not sure the cause) Plex has been a disaster. Here’s the following issues I’ve started to run into over the last several weeks:
- 1080p files will begin to stutter a few a few minutes of watching
-hdr files will simply no longer play. Audio will eventually play but video hangs in the loading loop graphic
-auto play creates audio to stop randomly after certain episodes. Have to restart playback to fix the issue
-don’t get me started on the years long audio sync issue we all know about
Now, for my main theater we use the Shield because it’s a tank and can throw everything at it. But in our family rooms I use ATV4Ks since everyone is familiar with the interface and prefers Apple devices.
After switching to infuse the last few days I can firmly claim Infuse doesn’t have a single issue that I just referenced. Infuriating, but at this point I’m having a hard time finding reasons to not completely bail on Plex. If infuse steps up their interface I’m switching - but while Plex (hopefully) works out their ongoing issues while spending 99% of their time growing their streaming and data collecting, I wanted to offer some help to anyone else that might run into these issues.
