I’m a new Plex user. I am only using it for my Apple Music files.
In Apple Music, I have created several genres. The genres are listed in both the server and the player, but when searching for albums with a genre filter, only a few of the albums are found by Plex. Examining two albums in Apple Music, one of which is found in Plex and another that is not found, I can find no reason for this anomaly. (only a few of the albums for each genre are found by plex).
I have scanned the data and restarted the server.

Plex does not read from apple xml files.
It will read genres embedded in the file if that is set in the music library settings. I don’t think Apple music writes the genre to the actual files when you edit.
After a break of 16 days, I’m coming back to this issue. I discovered that the Genres tag is working - perhaps the server was simply very slow to update? - or perhaps it was I? In any event, that’s solved.
Follow-on question: is it possible to apply a filter to a search?
