Arcade Game ROM Batch Naming and Other Questions

Reading through the Naming wiki, it mentions to use release year in the name. Is there some repository where I could find this information out? Is there a tool like Filebot that can help me auto rename the ROM files? I have over a thousand ROMS I got from a friend and they’re not named correctly. Getting my feet wet with emulators so any help would be greatly appreciated!

While PLEX works out the bugs within Arcade, I figured I could use this time to get my ROM house in order. Also looking for the following:

  1. What’s the exact console names that should be used for the folder name?
  2. What file extensions should the ROMS be? I know every console has its own extensions but looking for the one PLEX likes and what PLEX recognizes.

Thanks in advance! Stay Plexy!

Repost from the CEO

We look for the following extensions inside a zip (we’ll likely add more):

{ “nes”, “smc”, “a26”, “a52”, “a78”, “sfc”, “gb”, “gba”, “gbc”, “sgb”, “md”, “gen”, “z64” }

This is what im using in my RetroCores.xml at the moment

Mapping platform=“Game Boy Advance” core=“mgba_libretro”/
Mapping platform=“Sega Master System” core=“smsplus_libretro”/
Mapping platform=“Sega Game Gear” core=“smsplus_libretro”/

Mapping platform=“Sega 32X” core=“picodrive_libretro”/

N64 no run so good. mostly because of the way n64 works, not really a plex issue
If library scans are running it can also muck up playback so be sure to have your library up fully and restart plex server after changing the romcores.xml just to be safe.
I keep the original one as a .old and then mod my copy in the same folder jik.

You should be able to play the .zip/.7z file however,…

Uncompressing and loading the raw file into the library has also helped performance
IE: H:\Plex Arcade\Game Roms\Sega\Genesis\Arcade Classics (USA, Europe).md

In plex i just added a single library to start with and pointed it to my folder H:\Plex Arcade\Game Roms\

The contents of my Game Roms folder are
Sega\genesis, Sega\32x, Sega\Master System etc.

so far my biggest issues have been with arcade, old stuff that comes with, works with the default game core, however, newer 90s arcade like the simpsons or x-men.

i had to switch to mame2010_libretro, making the old arcades stop working.
(wish there was a way to distinguish different types of arcades, like arcade classics vs newer ones) mame, mame 2003, mame 2010

still getting transcoder not closing when a game is closed, so playing on my phone locally, still have to manually kill the game transcoder, if i don’t i cant play movies either.

still a work in progress but i love it so far

its weird as using windows 10 system ive just loaded up the same libreto you are using for game gear restarted plex and nothing the games are still not working have you had any luck getting gb or gbc to run gba run fine but tried everything to get the others to run and wont
