AS 6704T Settings for PMS

I am tech savvy with consumer technology products and services, but I have never had a NAS before until now. I was able to get the NAS drives initialized and copied my media files from my external USB drive to it. After watching some Asustor College and YouTube videos, I was able to get the settings for the NAS ADM OS for Plex to recognize it. At first it was all working OK, but my desktop PC had to be on for Plex to connect to my media folders. I thought that I should be able to access my media files from the NAS without having my computer logged into Windows. Also, the remote access in Plex was disconnecting shortly after it showed that it was connected. So, I fumbled around with the settings for both trying to fix these issues and wound up breaking the connection between the NAS and PMS. I disconnected the mapped network drive in Windows file explorer and now it does not even see the NAS on the network for me to remap it. I was learning as I was going along with the setup, but now I have hit a brick wall and cried UNCLE.

What I would like is if someone could please help walk me though getting the right settings in place for both where everything works as it should, I would greatly appreciate it!

Here are a few Plex details and I would be willing to share my NAS configuration as well if it helps.
Plex Media Server Windows 11 Version: 1.32.4.7195
PMS Server Version#: 1.32.0.6973-a787c5a8e from Asustor App Central
Plex Web Version#: 4.108.0

It reads like you have installed Plex Media Server on your PC instead of the NAS, or possibly installed it on both.

You do not need Plex Media Server installed on the PC. Check your list of installed programs.

Next, make sure Plex Media Server is installed on the NAS and is also running. I’m unfamiliar with Asustor NAS, so cannot help with this step.

Now, point a private/incognito browser at the IP address of the NAS, http://nas_ip_address:32400/web. For example, if the NAS IP address is 10.1.2.3, use http://10.1.2.3:32400/web.

You should then be able to login to the Plex Media Server and claim it (link it to your account).

@FordGuy61 thanks for responding. Yes, I have Plex installed on my desktop as that was how I was using it with my USB external drive before the NAS. I also have the Asustor Plex app installed on the NAS server.

So, is your recommendation to uninstall PMS on my desktop and just use the Plex Web to connect to it?

You can leave PMS on the desktop if you wish. It won’t hurt anything (I misunderstood. I didn’t realize you had an existing PMS installation).

You still need to claim and configure PMS on the NAS if you have not already done so.

The two servers are independent of each other. You can shutdown your PC and Plex/NAS will still work correctly.

When setting up remote access they must use different ports. If you are using fixed port forwarding in the router you will need to add a second forwarding statement to handle PMS/NAS.

Perhaps it might be best if we could continue our conversation more privately. Could you please DM me?
