Add NAS server to Plex on PC

Hello,

I’d like to Add NAS server to Plex Server app (on my new PC) but i don’t find where is the option.
I received a message saying that Plex wasn’t directly connected to the NAS.
Thanks in advance.

… as in you want to add media stored on your NAS to a server running on a different machine?

I know how to do that by adding a library.

But the software is asking me to add a server.

For the moment i have juste my pc in the list

Yes i watch movies on NVIDIA SHIELD with plex

When i go on plex software (not plex media server) i have this message :

The NAS is currently unavailable.
Please check that you have a network connection and that the server is accessible, or consult our troubleshooting tips for further assistance.

Let’s please clarify your current setup:
Do you already have an existing installation of one or more Plex Media Servers (on what platform(s)) and what version(s) do you have installed?

You’ve mentioned your PC being listed as one option and a Plex client that’s failing to see a (separate?) server referred to as „NAS“?

Usually, if multiple servers are signed in (claimed) using the same Plex account, all your client apps using that same account should already see those servers (and access them, unless there’s a network problem).

I installed Plex Media Server on my PC (version 4.147.1) and on my NAS server in the Package Center (version 1.41.5.9626-70009626). I only have one NAS server.

Thanks

Okay.
Can you access both servers locally (from within the same network/subnet) using their bundled web app?

I suppose it should work with the server installed on your PC (as you mentioned you can still see/access that one from your Plex player app).

  • For the PC → browse to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in a browser on the same device
  • For the NAS → browse to http://[local IP of your NAS]:32400/web

While on each web app… can you see the server‘s content and access its settings, e.g. Settings > [Server Name, e.g. „NAS“] > General?
Is that settings page indicating the server is signed in (offering you an option to sign out)?

This is a Synology, correct?

Which model? Control Panel → Info Center → Model name.

Which version of DSM? Control Panel → Info Center → DSM version.

EDIT: Is this the same DS918+/DSM 7.2 from your October 2025 thread?

If so, is Plex no longer working correctly on the NAS, did you remove & re-install Plex, etc.?

Just trying to understand the situation.

Yes it’s the same.
The problem is that i don’t know how to add a server in PLEX.

I found a workaround.

I create a library in Plex and then go to Windows File Explorer.
There, I find the path to the NAS and the folder I want, copy the address, and paste it into the settings of the library I created in Plex.

Are you having trouble adding a new library to the Plex server on the NAS?

Navigating the folder structure on a Synology can be cumbersome, as Plex does not hide folders that are hidden in File Station.

Also, you need to know the Synology volume number where the media files are located.

Example: Creating a new movie library.

You have a shared folder media with a subfolder movies.

You want to create a new movie library using files in the subfolder.

Synology Control Panel → Shared Folder displays the volume number for the shared folder.

Let’s use Volume 1 as an example.

Therefore, the path to the folder media is /volume1/media.

When adding a library and selecting “Browse for Media Folder” you have two options.

Option 1: Manually enter the path.
Since you know the path to the folder, you can manually enter it, then click “Add.”

Option 2: Navigate the Synology file structure

  1. Select the root folder on the left, /.
  2. On the right, scroll down and select volume1.
  3. Then, on the right, select media, then movies, and then click Add.

Repeat either option if you want to add multiple folders to a library.
