As many others: Intro video markers is not working

Plex Version 1.25.3.5409

As many others I have problems with Generate intro video markers. It was working flawlessly before I upgraded my Synology NAS (DS1019+) from DSM 6 to 7. The Plex upgrade failed so I had to reinstall it and redo my 6-8 libraries. After that “Generate intro video markers” has not worked. Even on shows where it worked before I updated both DSM and Plex. It is set to “as a scheduled task and when media is added” as always and I have tried both from my local IP and from app.plex.tv.

I have tried all solutions I have found both here and on reddit (and other places too) but all in vain.

What sort of information should I provide (and how do I obtain it) to get help with this issue? I’m streaming onto a Samsung smart TV if that makes any difference…

Please advice  Thanks in advance.

Maybe let’s start with what solutions you tried
When you look at a show that’s got a 20+ seconds intro during the 1st half of a show… can you open Get Info > View XML for one of its episodes and check if there’s a Marker element?

  • If there is, the intro detection had actually worked… the Samsung client should be able to offer you a skip intro button (assuming this is a 2016 or later UHD model with their Tizen platform).

  • If the Marker element is missing… can you manually perform Analyze on the season in question?

There is no Marker element and Analyze doesn’t seem to do anything. I can’t even see as much as a flicker on the Activity icon in the upper right corner :frowning: I would expect Analyze to be a somewhat lengthy process…? Also the Dashboard doesn’t show any activity.

It should be a somewhat lengthy process if you do it on the season level and intro detection hasn’t been completed before.

Well nothing happens when I click Analyze :-/
So is my issue that Analyze is not working/running rather than the the intro markers not being generated?

Would you mind sharing your server logs to check what’s going on when you analyze?

Sure - no problem. But before I do: Are there any sensitive information in any of the logs? IP# etc?

What exactly will you see if you open http://[Syno IP]:32400/library/metadata/3834 from a browser inside your home network? (that’s one of the pages that’ll return html content instead of the expected XML MediaContainer)

I get an HTTP Error 401 Unauthorized

If I go to /PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server on my NAS I don’t see a library folder

EUREKA!

I think I got it! At least the Activity icon is now spinning saying “Detecting intros”.

As it turns out the internal user PlexMediaServer had read/write access to the PlexMediaServer folder rather than full acces with the ability to change permissions and what not. I gave it full axx and now it’s running

UPDATE: Yup! It works

Thanks for leading me on the right way
