You can add anyway you fell like. Whatever looks good to you. Unfortunately, sports are not allowed on thetvdb site and thus will not match database source(thetvdb). This is not a PLEX thing. This is strictly TheTVDb and they are VERY adamant about it.
Thanks for your reply and helping out this newbie, @NewPlaza. I guess my problem is that I do have the title/path named as I would like, and based on the documentation/link above it is following the guidance.
However, it is neither showing Rose Bowl (in the title of the .mvk file as mentioned in the bottom of that article) nor is it showing 2004 (in the path as also suggested by the article) but 2005 for the season.
I have a feeling I am doing something very wrong here so I am looking for further guidance on how to correct this.
That’s assuming you can use thetvdb. That article is on how to best name things so plex can match it up with thetvdb.
Your best bet is to create another library of type OTHER VIDEOS
plex does not get episode titles from the file name. It can get it from online metadata or embedded metadata of an MP4. since that is an MKV you would just need to edit the episode title in Plex metadata to add Rose Bowl * (click the pencil on top right)
it showing 2005 instead of 2004 is a bit odd. i am guessing it got it from date on the episode. I have a feeling we have always just done what the TVDB did were if it aires in a year that is the season. and it it taking year in file name as priority. gonna have to ask a folks about it.
anyway maybe just change it to 2004 ( in file name) then edit the metadata “originally available” date of episode in plex to be the correct 2005 date
OK Great… thank you all for your assistance and taking the time to help out this newb. It is much appreciated.
Sounds like the right idea is to create a Other Videos library as @NewPlaza suggested and mop up the details with the metadata screen as @BigWheel pointed out.
plex does not get episode titles from the file name
Do you know if that is the case with movies as well @BigWheel? As I am running into another problem as demonstrated here with a simple library that I have created (after seeing it on a much wider scale on a main library I tried to create):
You can see A Charlie Brown Christmas loads in perfectly. The other two are not found, but it would seem that the titles do use the year found in the file titles and are replaced by metadata found somewhere (from where, I do not yet know).
Is there are setting here that would ensure the the year from the file name is retained if not found by a service call, by chance?
There is another issue as well. Consider the first item in the added list, Best of the Football Follies. When looking in its metadata, I see this for the poster:
These are indeed captured films from a video input (converting VHS’s to mp4/mkv), but I am not sure where this poster is coming from… I would much prefer the one on the right, naturally.
The trouble is that all the VHS-to-digital captured titles are configured this way. I am wondering (more like hoping ) if there is a way to ensure all captured titles make use of the 2nd image rather than the 1st (dull one).
I appreciate any continued insight/assistance anyone can lend. FWIW, I did end up purchasing a lifetime Plex Pass. Happy to be aboard.
