How to name sporting events

I am having trouble getting sporting events to name properly in Plex.

For example, I have the following file “NFL 2017-09-10 Tennessee Titans vs Oakland Raiders.mkv”, which is similar to what “date based shows” should be named according to https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200381053-Naming-Date-based-TV-Shows.

However, when it processes into Plex, it shows up as “Episode 08-12 (8/12/17)”.

Any thoughts/ideas on how to fix this so it shows the correct name?

Put them in an Other Videos library and call them what you want.

If I do that, how can I get anything nice like metadata to go along with the file?

You can add any images that you want for each file. Just search for “Tennessee Titans vs Oakland Raiders” and pick an image, download it, and assign it to the appropriate file.
