Atmos TrueHD on LG TVs

I’m about to buy an LG B4 or C4 TV.
Is Plex on recent LG TVs able to passthrough Atmos TrueHD audio to a connected Atmos Soundbar without transcoding and without loosing the Atmos spatial metadata?

No. No TV (LG or other) supports TrueHD passthrough from TV based apps. It will be transcoded to another format and the Atmos information lost in the process.

Current LG TVs support TrueHD passthrough for devices connected to HDMI inputs.

You could connect a streaming device, such as a Nvidia Shield Pro, to a HDMI input on the TV. TrueHD would pass though the TV to the sound bar. Note that the TV and soundbar must both support HDMI-eARC.

If the soundbar has an HDMI input, you could also connect the streaming device directly to the soundbar. The soundbar would then play the audio and pass the video to the TV.

Thank you. Very clear. I’ve read that the recently released Fire Tv 4K stick allows atmos truehd passthrough. Do you know if that is true?

The FireStick 4K Gen 2 and 4K Max Gen 2 will passthrough TrueHD + Atmos. For DTS audio formats, they passthrough the DTS 5.1 core. So, DTS-HD MA and DTS:X direct play, but only the 5.1 core is passed.

I’ve not tried it with my FireStick, but others have posted that you can side load Kodi and the Plex for Kodi plug-in. This supports passthrough for DTS-HD MA and DTS:X, in addition to TrueHD + Atmos.

Great, thank you so much.
As far as I understand from your words, the Plex for Kodi plugin allows to to passthrough DTS-HD MA and DTS:X in a higher quality than what the original Plex client does. Is this correct?
