Attempting to Port Forward etc with a new router

Server Version#: Version 1.16.3.1402

So I just got a new router as my old one kicked the can. But I’m having a hell of a time setting things up, and my Remote Access hasn’t really worked at all, more on that later.

Here’s the situation. My cable modem is operating with NAT, I don’t know how to disable it, the option is greyed out. Before, with my old router, I never needed to set a static IP or forward a specific port, remote access worked just fine.

I have gone through the process of setting a static IP for my server machine, and forwarding the port I have set in my remote access options through BOTH my cable modem/router and new router.

I have tried operating my cable modem/router as a bridge only, it doesn’t work for me. I may be doing it wrong, but I couldn’t get it to function at all and had to revert.

Occasionally I can get remote access working, but only right after restarting my router and modem, and my server map shows Private ? <- Public ? <- Internet with remote access functioning as normal.

Should I just set up my new router to be an access point or even a bridge? I don’t use the cable modem as my router because it’s older and the wireless is not strong enough to cover my whole house.

So I decided to switch my new router to AP mode, with my port forwarding set up on my cable modem/router and set my Plex Server to 32400 static.

Seemed to do the trick. Now we’ll see how long it lasts!
