Server Device: Synology TS-228
Player Device: Firestick 4k.
I am trying to stream content on the same network to my Firestick.
The player sees the list “Movies” which I set up on the server but when I select it it says I appear to be offline.
The Synology App-Center does not offer further updates for the server app therefore I assume I maxed out the avis aiable version for that device.
The subnet masks on the devices match and I am signed in in both and the firestick is on the whitelist. (Zugelassene Geräte).
Could the reason for my troubles be that my Server Version will not stream to my client version on the same network? If so what is the latest player version that will work with Plex Server 1.16.6?
How old of a NAS is that? I take it you’re running DSM 6 or 7 on it?
Can’t you manually update the server app through app center to the current version (1.28.2)?
PMS version 1.16 is indeed ancient. Most clients require at least version 1.18.3 of the server or newer.
Thanks for the reply. Its 6 years old. I fixed it by sideloading an older version when I found out the cutoff.
You think installing the current version on my NAS would work or would I run into horsepower problems?
I was just checking and wondering why that name looks a bit odd for a Syno. The reason is, it’s not a Synology NAS but a QNAP
The TS-228 is indeed eol’d by QNAP and should support QTS 4.3.6 as the latest version of their NAS operating system (if fully updated). That version seems to be compatible with the current PMS versions. As for performance etc. – I suppose there shouldn’t be all that much of a difference. The straining part for a CPU will be the media indexing and transcoding – that won’t be changing all that much.
