aTV DNS automatic?

I’m not a tech-savvy person so I don’t understand most of things posted here. Searched for any threads related to what I’m wondering but couldn’t find anything so decided to start a new thread. I’m sorry if it is posted before.

When I set aTV DNS to be the same with my computer IP running PMS, I’m no longer able to use airplay from iPad or iPhone. Also since I couldn’t figure out the way of assigning a fixed IP to my computer, the IP keeps changing which forces me to change aTV DNS every time the IP changes.

So I was wondering if there is a way to set aTV DNS to "automatic" and still have PlexConnect run properly? If yes, could someone point out exactly what I need to do? I'm sure there must be people like me out there, so it should be helpful for them too :)

Unless you have a jailbroken atv2 no.

No it needs to point at your device running PlexConnect so that it can intercept calls to the trailers app and provide responses from the Plex server instead.

If PlexConnect is working you should not be getting issues with AirPlay, if you are then reboot your ATV and router to remove any cached stuff.

You can reserve an IP address for your computer in your router (a better idea than a true static IP), there is a link on the first page of the wiki install guide (see sticky) to a Lifehacker guide on how to do this.

Thanks for clearing this out.

Rebooting ATV and router seems to help. Thanks!

I did read the Lifehacker guide on reserving an IP address for my computer, but I wasn't successful, as I said I'm not a tech-savvy person. Guess I will ask for help from a friend :)

None of my apple tv’s are set on a ip reservation. I’m not sure why that could/would be your issue. Airplay works perfectly on my network.
