ATV only connects to other apps when PMS host machine running

I have the PlexConnect script up and running perfectly. Thanks to those cleverer than me that let me copy and paste solutions! Great to have PlexRunning on my ATV.
 
My one gripe is that with the manual DNS set on my ATV it only connects to the internet when my iMac (running PMS) is turned on. Not a massive gripe but it is a little annoying when I have to boot up my Mac to watch Netflix or watch a YouTube video on my ATV.
 
Is there any kind of workaround for this that I'm missing?

You could always just change the DNS on the ATV back instead of booting the mac

Thanks, institute. That's the other work around I've been using.

Ideally I'm looking for a 'wife-friendly' solution where she can just click away without any tinkering. The fabled best of both worlds. :)

I just have an iMac always on with Plexconnect running.

The only options at the moment are to either:

  • switch the ATV DNS server when needed
  • run PlexConnect all the time on a device (PC, NAS or WRT router)
  • use the host file on a jailbroken ATV to redirect trailers.apple.com instead of the PlexConnect DNS server
  • use a ipfw tables in a WRT/Tomato router to redirect trailers.apple.com instead of the PlexConnect DNS server
